Another thing as a hobbyist: AC servos can save you money vs high performance DC power supplies. they also simplify some kinds of wiring. in a typical 3 axis mill with 3 motors of hobby scale, you might buy a teknic IPC5 power supply and a

Very good point about harmonic drives and backdriveability. I had forgotten that problem.

standard gear cutting arbors aren't that expensive, but are often for standard module gears and the gear form is an approximation that applies to a given range of gears. e.g. https://www.amazon.com/EVNSIX-Involute-Cutte

Belt drives are also very annoying. Naming conventions are inconsistent and obtuse. Parts materials differ, and a whole lot of stuff seems to be custom. in Servos and steppers, there are also weird mixes of metric and standard sizes - e.g.

I'll say for completeness here (having mentioned Clearpath servos in another comment) that DC clear path servos are totally fine for "semi" industrial uses. I have them on a bed mill I am restoring, and with a good ballscrew

This advice is not good. Robot arms should use harmonic drive gearboxes and servos, IMO. In practice, if the loads are not massively high, the important thing is closed loop steppers or servos, with accurate homing routines and good error h

If you are doing servos and not well versed in these things, I highly recommend clearpath servos from teknic. The wiring is easy and their tuning support is very good (if the auto tune doesn’t work). If you need more power, or AC servos, I

Interesting. I have one of those computers with 8gb and have not had problems with Lightroom, Photoshop, or Autodesk fusion360. I'm not saying that there are no issues, but the m1s in my experience seem to need less RAM to do the same

My experience (sample of one) is that they don't. They're supposed to, but VOCs are definitely higher all winter running heat than all summer running air conditioning. Natural gas combustion is at best _mostly_ exhausted.

my headlights aim down, and I've taken pains to ensure that they don't aim higher than they were supposed to stock. I recognize that others do not do this.

I agree that over-zealous GFCI is annoying. BUT, as a new parent, I can assure you that babies will manifest dangerous objects and do dangerous things.

it is nearly impossible, IME. Good luck finding AFCI 20amp 2 poles for doing shared neutral 120v circuits on a 14/3 wire.

real downside: many things work poorly on gfci stuff. E.g. A miter saw or welder. I had AFCI/GFCI breakers in my garage per code, but essentially no power tools work with those kinds of circuits.

And crypto has also categorically failed to be a hedge against inflation! It has proved to be high correlated and it is just as fiat as anything else. Backed by irrational exuberance.

I love my Pentel Graphgear 1000. If note taking, I really think the way to go is .7 or .9 leads, but .5 is nice if you need fine lines. I use the .5 for woodworking, but a .7 along with a Rhodia dot paper notepad for my desk.
