Without a stepper to hold the torque all the time, ballscrews will creep. The friction is too low. You could leave the ballscrew and just add a shaft locking clamp, or be fancy and drive it with an actual stepper motor.

Self reply - I have contemplated swapping the cheap spindle for one that has an ISO20 tool change compatible spindle so you could swap bits from the top (and share tools with my CNC router). It seems very nice, but at this point is too much

Or, go totally overkill and use what is essentially the Z axis from a CNC router, upside down, with the ballscrew replaced with a tight acme screw. And then use a cheap 1.5KW chinese spindle with an ER20 collet system. All the parts are des

Because in the US, it is more and more common to run everything on 14ga wire. It’s just cheaper to run low end plugs most places. OTOH, in my workshop, I just got done running a 60A circuit at 220v for a welder. I wish I could have the same

I’m curious what the file types you get out of this system are? I’d very much like a 3D scanning solution that could accurately capture things like molding or other smaller architectural details. Is this system good enough on small parts?

Dark Crystal was so good, too. It's a shame, but that format and that concept is always chasing a small audience. I'm sad we won't get a season 2, though.

it just needs to be glued. most joints are fine in Ikea if everything is solidly glued and the fasteners they give you are just built-in clamps. Then it can be moved and used for years.

As far as integrated CAD/CAM, I've never seen anything as nice to use as Fusion on the OSS side. Honestly, I'll just end up paying. It pisses me off that they managed this so poorly, and even more that their pricing tiers inc

I moved from SF to Boulder over the last weekend. At the end of my first day driving in Wendover UT, the smoke was still so thick we could look at the sun directly with no eye protection. It was just dull red. In Boulder, there is STILL a h

It’s the load on parking, sewer, electric, gas lines, school districts, hospitals, etc. it all adds up, and if you recover all the costs from the permitting, then nobody will build. It is quite complicated.

Right, this makes sense, because the "Artificial" part goes away once we have a fully understood algorithm. It's just part of intelligence to use algorithms when they work.
