I'm excited for this tool. I don't use Docker so something like this is going to make my life much easier. I like the idea of being able to hop between projects and start all the processes I need for that project with one command.

Yup! Vitess is at the core of PlanetScale and enables us to add lots of cool stuff on top (branching, Boost, etc) but Vitess itself is still open source!

Nope! That part you quoted is referring to Vitess, which was built at Google to scale YouTube. See more: https://planetscale.com/vitess

I'm not sure if you've seen the other post, but we can totally handle one million queries per second: https://planetscale.com/blog/one-million-queries-per-second-... . And previous HN discussion: https:/

I think you can start to hit connection limit walls with RDS at several hundred connections, depending on your instance size. Running an even moderately busy app you could hit those pretty quickly. I would hate to have to change my entire i

This is a good call out. Data corruption is always possible due to software, firmware, hardware bugs and failures... but that’s not specific to OOMs. You could have non-crash safe settings like sync_binlog != 1 or innodb_flush_log_at_trx_co

I spend a whole lot of time on Twitter and I want to agree with this post but it misses the point! Threads are really great for distribution. I hate that it's true, but it's true. You can write a huge, wonderful article and tweet

I spend a disproportionately high amount of time on Twitter and haven't ever seen that. Very strange! All arguments I've seen are about consistency and maintainability.

This is a genuine question: are Tailwind fans really saying you don't need to learn CSS? I'm a huge Tailwind fan and I've not seen people say that. I actually don't even know _how_ you could use Tailwind without knowing

I honestly can't think of any time where "build your own database" is a good solution, unless you're a database company or maybe Google.

I just watched "A Trip to Infinity" [1] on Netflix last night and really enjoyed it. I'm not a mathematician by any means, but I was still able to follow it all. Highly recommended. [1] https://www.netflix.com/

This is me! It's kind of wild to see my story on the GitHub domain like that. I'm so grateful that they took the time to write this up, it's definitely a "show the kids one day" kind of deal for me. Happy to answer

In my experience (I created the robots in that twitter thread) the problem with the wedding invitations market is that they have to be almost totally perfect. With mass mail, you can have skew, slant, weird characters and it doesn't su
