No, the value does not increase. The price increases. Price and value are different in economic contexts, and you quite clearly were referring to "value" as economic value in your first comment, and are now using "value"

No, that is not the only answer. There is at least one other possibility, which is that the demand for money is increasing.

Is that saying that you are comparing Cockroach running on 81 c5d.9xls vs Aurora running on 2 r3.8xls? I get that part of what you are trying to show is that Cockroach will scale far past what any single-master system can, but it feels pret

That's at best a misunderstanding of what that means, and a less charitable reading of your comment would be that it's deliberately misleading. "San Francisco" refers to the metro area which includes a much larger area.

The only fee you mention is $50, that really doesn't seem like that big of a deal. The blog post does not do a very good job of explaining why being a C Corp has been a "nightmare".

Sure but that means your argument for building a new highway needs to be "it will get more people where they are going" and not "it will reduce congestion", and you definitely can't pull any "if people are able

Using the LD50 for a carcinogen is inappropriate. LD50s are used as a measure of acute toxicity. The issue isn't that it's going to kill you from toxicity, it's that if you expose thousands of children to even low levels of i

I highly recommend using flexible-freeze if you run Postgres in production - does not take very much effort to set up and almost certainly will help you avoid issues with txnid wraparound: https://github.com/pgexperts/f

Then you are just forcing your application to deal with the dangling reference in the case of a failed "transaction". The whole point of TPC is not to have to deal with that complexity. Whether that complexity is actually difficul

It's kind of weird that this is an HTTP link. It's also kind of weird that certificate-transparency.org doesn't redirect you to HTTPS.

Why do you value democracy? My answer would be because democracy realizes liberal* ideas in a political process. But if liberal processes lead to illiberal outcomes, what do you do? I don't think you can argue that the past ~40 years o

The $1000 units are gone, forever. If Portland builds enough to keep up with demand, eventually inflation will cause the rent in real terms to be equivalent to $1000 2017 dollars, but the sticker price for these units will never be $1000 ag

YES. This is basically proxying to S3. Why would you ever want to do that? You want to give clients a presigned URL to do the upload. Lots of ORMs support "file fields" though which encourage you to do this or something similar.

Since 9.2 Postgres has had index-only scans which can substantially improve the performance of `SELECT COUNT(* )` queries. If you need to get exact counts, and your query plan is not showing an index-only scan, you should try adding an inde

I think Python's primary use case has now shifted far enough from scripting to server-side web development that ~35 ms of startup time to deal with Unicode better is a worthwhile tradeoff for the majority of Python users. It does raise

There are very few if any bike-only trails in the Marin public open spaces. Generally there are hiking only, hiking/horse and hiking/horse/bike trails. There's no horse-only or bike-only or horse/bike trails.

The graph really is totally flat below the L1 cache size line, and even on a log-log graph the slope between 10 MB and 1 GB is not significant.
