These sort of avoid-branches optimizations were effective once upon a time as I profiled them on the XBox 360 and some ancient Intel iGPUs, but yeah - don't do this anymore. Same story for bit extraction and other integer ops - we us

Strong disagree. The RV32E subset of the RISC-V spec is even simpler than 6502 and has good modern support in cheap microcontrollers (CH32V003 etcetera) and widely available simulators.

"Take the pedals off, and it's a motorcycle." Someone's never ridden an e-bike before. 500 watts on an 80 pound fat-tire bike is gonna get you like 10-15 mph cruising speed max.

Following up here - Moonlight/Sunshine is the best remoting experience by far on a local network. Windows to Windows is virtually transparent, supported via almost all GPUs, and lagless. Linux to Windows is slightly harder to set up (T

Depends on what you mean by "mesh". Each road segment is an instanced rectangle that gets extruded and beveled so that it fits tightly against adjacent segments, and then the pixels are shaded using AAA (with a capsule-shaped dist

I wrote an implementation of the Loop/Blinn paper for Microsoft Game Studios ~20 years ago, I wonder if they're still using it. Had to do a _lot_ of work to make it production-ready, as their voronoi-based tesselation goes patholo

Hi, don't know if you'll see this but the tests in SMHasher are designed to break hash functions by generating low-entropy key sets that try to trigger weak bit-mixing paths in the hash function. When a hash function has weak mixi

Good refactoring should significantly reduce the size or complexity of a codebase. These two metrics are interrelated, but as a general rule if the gzipped size of the codebase (ignoring comments) does not go down, it's probably not a
