I'm using tmux myself for persistent shells on remote machines (mostly irc), but not much otherwise. Lots of people and guides make it sound like it's also very useful when you're working locally. Can someone enlighten me wha

I'm pretty sure they do. I saw it in person earlier this year and there was a knob that controlled the execution speed.

Interestingly, LISP for the PDP-6 was begin written while the machine was still being built.

I wrote a compiler for B some years ago. The code generation is horrible but it was a fun project: https://github.com/aap/abc/ Still mean to port that to the PDP-10 eventually.

I'm still wondering whether the amd64 port of OpenVMS will kill amd64 like it killed every other platform it ever ran on.

Quote from doug: > And finally, having followed the development of C++ from its infancy, I wanted to try out its new template facility, so there's a bit of that in the package, too. Arnold has discovered that not only has C++ evolve

This is a very nice specimen of the clear and easy to read code that is so typical of room 1127. A great example to follow.

You can still share the source code. Just requires some assembly then.

Indeed. Software emulation is fun and all but real hardware works differently.

Old High German is not the ancestor of English. Some kind of West Germanic might be called a common ancestor of both English and German.

Alpha is certainly not big endian. And MIPS today is probably little endian more frequently than big endian.

I have Windows 2000 RC2 running on an Alpha :) It's really neat, you can even execute x86 programs.

Not liking being told what not to do does not imply that you want to actually do it though. Maybe I don't want to leave the house today, but that doesn't mean I will accept being locked up.

This makes me sad. Do people really need to be told what not to do and say like that? To me it feels insulting that I am not trusted to be nice to others.

It probably would have been a good idea to use plan 9 troff for this. It's a descendant of the original troff while groff is a reimplementation...and I have noticed the output of groff looks a bit different.
