The amount of vitriol in this comments section is astonishing. Can we not share fun projects without the professional Kubernetes experts thumbing their noses? At the very least, it does seem now like the complexity of K8s’s code base is a p

Sure! Apply to become a crawler. And if you meet certain criteria and your crawlers don’t exceed a quota then have at it. The key is not to make it technically challenging, but to erect a legal barrier.

Fine, the content is free. But if your crawlers want access to the content, then pay! Simple as that.

I think these more functional, utilitarian aesthetics reflect the reality that brands are everywhere — from your physical presence, to packaging, to web experiences, to modern advertising. Photography is a highly complex, three dimensional

The AI control problem is a sci-fi narrative that is less instructive as a future speculation, and more instructive as an allegory for the present, in which a vanishingly small upper elite power class can construct a false reality for a des

Given the parallel you draw at the end, perhaps future models will adopt some kind of common phrase to denote thinking, such as ‘Umm’, ‘er’, etc. Maybe there’s even a neurologically concise explanation for why humans do that!

I think there are two sources of confirmation bias here: 1. People on HN are already primed to appreciate this style of writing. Simple. Precise. Direct. It suits a technical literal mind to have less ambiguity and fewer flourishes. 2. On t

I think the article is taking the stance that ethics should be a concern at the point of development, and those that create these large language models and those that use them should be accountable. Right now, those groups are not accountab

Yup, exactly. This is also the stance taken in the book Lingua Franca: > Ethics in AI should not be so convoluted as to require a separate profession; ethics should be distributed across an organization, flowing through and between indiv

So I see that this comment and a few others make the point that a great number of people are too lazy/poor/busy to make the distinction between good food and ghost kitchen drivel. I think this is an interesting argument, but in fo

Best Buy created a high margin stream in repairs and warrantys, while cutting down on low volume goods and basically becoming a showroom for large brands. Companies pay them to display their wares prominently. So if you’re looking for some

As painful, shameful, and beautiful as it is, the baton has been handed to a generation of tech entrepreneurs and their entourages. And as much as I hate to say it, the city will emerge as something completely new and infinitely different.

I worked in a food production and delivery startup (meal prep), and while I was constantly surrounded by the 'buzz' of ghost kitchens, a part of me was sure -- absolutely sure -- that this would be a fad. Why? Simple market dynami

That's the definition of a bad brand. A truly good brand cannot be bought and sold in that way, takes decades to earn the trust of its rabid fan base, and with every slight imperfection creates legions of haters that declare the brand

How would third party JavaScript fingerprint users? Only if there’s a backend data broker aggregating identities based on a universal token (e.g. email). Or one of those super shady tech wizardry techniques like timing OpenGL calls.

Agreed. The larger and deeper the model, the more the use cases seem to become negative ROI. I think for business use there will have to be an effort to compress the architecture considerably

The only solution is a crop of AI- guided systems that trade with high frequency to get in front of this information. That will likely smooth out some of this rockiness, and give way to entirely information driven markets (no fundamentals).

Open source doesn’t mean that everyone will be rolling their own. It means that lots of players will start to offer endpoints with GPT-X, perhaps bundled with other services. It is good for the market.

It is increasingly, vanishingly hard to not use the big three cloud services. Mainly because any platform or tool you might use is _also_ hosted on these clouds.
