The unit economic analysis here is really off. Waymo loses a billion dollars a year on operating in only two or three cities. The cost is clearly not just the CapEx of buying the vehicles, there’s an incredible amount of ongoing engineering

It would be cool to annotate the lifetime using this syntax instead: -> &map’s mut V The apostrophe here matches the syntax of lifetimes roughly and to me makes it EXTREMELY clear whats going on.

I wouldn’t go as far as your last statement. While shocking, it’s not inconceivable that there’s native token I/O for audio. In fact tokenizing audio directly actually seems more efficient since the tokenization could be local. Neverth

Exactly! Handling null is still.. exception handling. You just check it with an if, not a try catch. But the semantics around try/catch are the main issue here and basically everywhere in JS. Error catching in JS is absolutely abysmal.

This was my immediate reaction as well. The data used to train these systems is inherently really sketchy. And it’s something that any engineer working on it would immediately notice. We certainly did, when building our own models.

Whats your experience like using it? Is it ergonomic or does it require you to do lots of type gymnastics?

We’ve had our google cloud account frozen without an explanation or advance notice. Google has just this really unshakable reputation of being risky. We now host only non-critical secondary infrastructure there

The wayback machine is pure nostalgia. Every time I go there I’m truly amazed at what it’s like to have a society wide memory that automatically captures these different moments of our lives. Old pictures I never thought I’d ever see again.

This is an advertisement for the authors own technology (an LLM jailbreak detector), which they don’t describe or disclose in the paper.

If you hide the tag in a way that it can’t be removed (locked to the bike etc) then what option does the thief have? They might actually decide not to steal the item!

Just browse huggingface and you’ll see literally hundreds. Lots of them are totally from-scratch trained, and not just fine tunes of SD.

I was really impressed until I realized that the app is basically a wrapper around tesseract.js, which is the actually cool part. Tesseract has a wasm port that can operate inside of a webworker. Not saying that the article was being mislea

Don’t be so cynical. I was like the third person to comment on this post and both existing comments were negative. One asking about a game telling the difference between art or trash, etc.

Sad to see the other comments are so contemptuous. When you see one of his pieces in person, you will gain an immediate appreciation for what he was trying to do. Essentially Richard Serra’s iron sculptures were playing with the architectur

What do you think is the realistic ceiling of using an AI agent helper? Like when do you feel like you would “graduate” from the agent and just have enough skills to want to read documentation yourself, etc.? Or would you always imagine you

This is a… super niche case but if you insist, you can use the @apply syntax to use tailwind inside a css file to save time and typing. Then they have an extension for vscode that does autocomplete and shows you the css of each shortcut.

Implausible to me. Keeping that team going would put pressure on Figma. My read between the lines is that Adobe negotiated a partnership before ending talks.

To all the people saying “this sucks because we can’t use it” — there’s no real value in Google releasing this vs just making the announcement. This space is a race to the bottom, and there’s no significant profit being created in image gen

This definition is itself tautological and also quite flawed. For example at what point in this machine’s development has it attained AGI? What if it learns to/is taught to stop learning? What if the machine is not capable of, e.g. mat
