That doesn't work -- there are front-facing surfaces behind other front-facing surfaces. You can see an example of this in the point-drawing javascript implementation further down the page, where I do just that.

Yes, I just collapsed all the rotations because it ended up being smaller code than doing the two separate axis rotations on x,y,z. Clarity and simplicity was the opposite of the goal here, it was an IOCCC entry. But I think I did pretty m

Barnes-Hut uses a quadtree, doesn't it? I don't know whether the code was adapted to use an octree in 3D instead; maybe it was? FWIW there's a really interesting Google techtalk on how it works: http://www.youtub

Not at all... "documents" were the user's play history and "words" were artists. So if you played one artist twice and another artist once it'd be like a document that says "artist1 artist1 artist2".

Ha, I made something very similar with the goal of mesmerizing passersby at a conference where we had a booth: http://www.a1k0n.net/spotify/artist-viz/ Used t-SNE on a vector clustering which came from LDA.

I calculated this out a couple days ago. The hash rate has been rising pretty steadily exponentially with all the new ASICs coming online, and can be expected to double again within 25-30 days. The current break-even price for 1 GH/s

Exec-PC (huge BBS based in Milwaukee, WI) was full of anti-SEA propaganda in those days, which was just bizarre and I didn't understand why at the time. I also didn't realize the code was open. If only we had github in BBS form i

You can always keep the un-rebased branch around if you want to preserve the history somewhere, and then squash the commits down to a smaller number on top of master. That solves the safety net problem, and master keeps its sanitized histo

Not really; there's no rounding problem with x << 1. x * 2, x+x, x<<1 are all equivalent. The real reason it doesn't use the shift instruction on x86 is because it takes 3 bytes to encode the instruction whereas adding a r

Well, and I'm pretty sure Joomla! and Add To Cart don't belong in there either. Pretty much any web corpus will contain lots of this text, alongside lots of other random things, so statistical translation will produce... this.

Ah, but then you can't do a quick U-turn. I think ideally you'd queue up to two moves, the second always being a 180 if any, but if you change your mind it clears the queue. E.g. you're going right, you can queue up-left or down-left but

The fibo_log routine is doing exponentiation by squaring as you suggest, but it isn't explained at all in the article. It just says it "uses interesting algorithmic strategies and is supposed to be O(log n)."

I think calculators for interest calculations makes a lot of sense. I'd be pretty impressed by students doing P(1 + r/M)^N without a calculator, though I suppose you could do repeated tedious multiplications of P*(long decimal number). We
