I think it might be a bit tongue-in-cheek, but when I look at the game as written, it actually sounds fun. -I think the real game there might be inventing such graph for your oponent, so that you have a chance for a draw? :)- Wow, finally f

I work as a QA, and what I have noticed, tests usually help on projects that are maintained long term. After a few thousands LOC, any new addition might break something in some unrelated part of the system and tests are there to catch it. B

In my mind, what swayed me towards static typing languages was after I played around with Haskell and was able to use the 'deriving' clause. The realization that with types, smart enough compiler can implement interfaces for me,

Yep, when I was trying to understand the fuss about monoids (I blame Gabriel Gonzales excelent talk [1]), I made myself a little toy EDSL for configuration in Python, that was made mostly by implementing mappend for dictionaries [3] :) [1]

Thinking about this more, certain internal HR hiring-budget structure might be what is putting dent in this plan. In my company, if there is open position, afaik there seem to be two things associated with it, a rack and some budget. Before

I have done this as a junior dev to finish my school. I negotiated 6hr days, and I know few people that did something similar to i.e finish theses, e.t.c. People that go i.e. from intern to full-time often stay at 4h a day, untill they fini

Thanks for the link, I would like to try something similar. Probably would take on some project for a new command line util at work that I wanted to create for some time :-) Having it work related would mean that sheduling would be easier.

Unfortunately I realised that my brain just doesn't work that way. It seems that for any meaningful, productive work I need at least hour and half. On smaller budget I can only do chores, i.e. pay an invoice or answer a trivial email.

My way of 'getting it' emerged only after few weeks, when we spent quite a lot of time on a proof that not (not A) is equivalent to A in propositional logic. Then I realized that I shouldn't think about these in terms of idea

I would say that PHD is not a waste of time only if you plan to stay in academia. If writing papers and chasing grants is your jam, go for it. If you are looking for one more thing for your CV, don't bother with phd.

As somebody who likes it for work, how do you deal with lack of generics? My team is starting several new projects in go, where in the past we used either java (and I actually liked java typesystem) or nodejs (and I liked that one as well).

Isn't callback hell referencing to the fact that you can't easily access the previous result of computation without nesting closures inside one another? It seems to me that first time I really avoided cb hell is when I started usi

I would really recommend MERCUR, I am just not sure where would you be able to get it. Where I come from (i.e. Czech Republic), it is this legendary engineering toy kit, and you could build almost anything with it :) As kids we loved it, an

I am kinda waiting for Purescript to mature a tiny bit more in this regard, because it seems that they have something special brewing there, with their polymorphic record type and interesting take on type-level programming. Because this [1]

It depends how deep you want to go. I would say that 'functional' can mean different thing to different people, but usually I see it as methodical use of certain programming features over others. 1. Language supports functions as

The reason why you can't use functional methods of Groovy in jenkins is, that the intepreter that runs inside of jenkins has been rebuild so that jenkins can suspend/resume the execution of the pipeline. This means that everything
