Thanks for sharing- I find that these type of anecdotes often do work for other people, and are not information people can get from a doctor. I’m going to try what you suggest myself- I also tend to wake up at night and not fall back asleep

It makes sense to shut down the app in the US immediately rather than be unable to update it- but does that necessarily mean they would also shut it down outside the US, or access directly via the website?

It sounds like they are just banning it from new installs on app stores, won't people just browse to the URL to use it? The distinction between apps and websites seems arbitrary to me... especially since a huge fraction of apps seem to

In practice, it is probably impossible to innovate on housing materials in California- I doubt you could get a permit or insurance, which is a shame. Plus, I and most people wouldn't personally want to buy a any type of stone or brick

That is a fascinating cultural perspective and explains a lot of things to me: I've always treated cars like houses are in the USA- I buy an older higher end car like a Porsche, keep it in perfect shape, and expect it to appreciate- an

Interesting, thanks! The regulatory explanation makes a lot of sense- I once tried to pull a permit to install a ceiling fan in a small USA town, and it was a nightmare.

I don’t know but do they have ~7.9 earthquakes like California? I’ll bet they were not multi story homes with vaulted ceilings, giant glass windows with tons of natural light, and efficient insulation? Wood is extremely cheap, and extremely

I could but I won’t… do you think I asked that question because I urgently need accurate data on Japanese housing? Why does anyone join forums, or discuss things with friends in real life when they could just Google things?

Unreinforced masonry is illegal in most of California and extremely dangerous- every brick becomes a projectile in an earthquake. Despite the news coverage, fires are extremely rare but nearly every home in these areas is guaranteed to face

Why would anyone tear down a 20 year old house? Where I live the houses are 80-100 years old and they’re better built and nicer to live in than most newer homes.

Unreinforced masonry is illegal in most of California- it essentially fractures into a swarm of heavy projectiles during an earthquake- which is a bigger risk than fires here. Brick homes are very common on the east coast where they don’t h

Stocks are generally not considered tied to currency- if the company has some fundamental value, that should be inflation proof. So technically buying almost any stock can be a way of shorting the USD in that you are selling it now and will

This is often I think a really unsatisfying thing about physics. Usually the qualitative descriptions don't quite make sense if you think very hard about them- and if you dig deeper it's often just "we found some math that fi

Battery cells are just a commodity EV makers can purchase- they don't need to be able to engineer them in house. There are a lot more parts on an ICE car that pretty much need to be engineered by the vehicle manufacturer.
