It depends on the state. Texas is a good example of a state with property protection laws that differ at night. https://www.dougmurphylaw.com/defense-of-property If I were walking at night in Texas, I'd be sure to alwa

An exam was three problems, three hours, 33% of your final grade. That was my experience in CS algorithms. Lots of students switched majors because of that class.

Wouldn't it be easier for them to just tell you what the Dow Jones Industrial Average will close at the day of their visit. If that's not convincing enough, they could do it for two or three days in a row.

Read only filesystem snapshots (that can be restored quickly) are the best way to prevent ransomware IMPO. The snapshots can't be over-written or modified and the user can restore them whenever they like.

I first met antirez during the Engine Yard Hamming Distance contest. Does anyone else remember that? DJB, and his team, won it. It was a lot of fun to participate. http://oldblog.antirez.com/post/some-math-about-the-eng

This is why I got a BA (liberal arts and sciences) and a MS in CS. I wanted a traditional, classical university education not just a CS degree. I did not want to be stereotyped.

Great post. I wish more people would genuinely listen to those they disagree with. When we shut people down or make them feel uncomfortable/threatened to the point that they won't speak, what have we gained?

They need a bug bounty like program (but non security related) to report these sorts of things. This could have cost them a lot of money.

Some research edus in the US still run open networks with globally routed IPs on every node and no edge firewalls. While they are a dying breed, they still exist.

I work all hours on-site and remote, not just between 8 and 5 in the office. Your situation may have been different, but something I've learned over the years is you don't have to say anything. Just keep walking. Skipper said it b

"I do not mind that Go lacks exceptions or generics. These features are often overrated." I agree 100%. I've used them both in C++. I hope Go never gets them.

I don't understand the need for this. There is nothing criminal or embarrassing about being in public or participating in a peaceful protest. Why is this feature needed?

One reason is that wealthy tech outsiders move to poorer areas and drive up real estate values to the point that only wealthy tech outsiders can afford to buy houses (shutting out many/most of the local residents).

It's more fun. You have complete control and you learn more. It's like building a Morse code key from spare parts rather than buying one from the store. Having said that, I think NearlyFreeSpeech provides a great web hosting servi

The ISPs happily allow brute-force bots to smash away at anything that provides remote access (SSH, RDP, VNC). Why would a web server be considered different?

I hope individuals and businesses start saving again. When I was a kid, everyone saved money. We spent it too, but we all saved for rainy days. Maybe that idea will make a come back now. Be prepared. You never know what may happen.
