Well people still think that NASA Mars mission is kind of cool even after seeing Star Trek and Star Wars. I didn't have a console, PC or powerful laptop for about 6 years. Next year I am going to buy one of those to go with my Oculus.

This always makes me laugh! "Look guys we invented this new functional language - it's awesome" - well cool, now go back and make a decent IDE and tools for it.

Why would a mostly similar language on the same runtime even help you scale that much? Surely it's about frameworks and technologies!

I don't think so. Look at C# - completely alien to JVM yet getting more and more cross-platform traction via Mono and Xamarin. I think it's more about language robustness and appeal. Also switching from Java to C# you loose less t

Could it be the reason Symbian was slow and eventually failed? Were they interpreting or compiling Python?

Isn't it why Python guys are trying to use more annotations? To patch it with some sort of semi-decent static analysis? Check the Dropbox's pain presentation: https://www.dropbox.com/s/83ppa5iykqmr14z/Py2

What does it even mean? You can dump everything into one class hacky Python way if you want. You can use dynamic keyword if you don't care about type safety.

A grain of salt: "I’m fortunate enough to be in a position where I can pursue other values in life besides dollars" - all your competitors will be much less fortunate now, going free is a kind of price dumping. I wish all the $.9
