Respectfully, I disagree. Forces working against democracy are driven by people wanting more power at the cost of the majority. These people can head companies. So it might look like capitalism is trying to infiltrate a democracy.

Probably Valais. It's a deep, dry valley with rain shadow. What they were biking along is an irrigation canal. At the top of the mountains the glacier gives meltwater even during dry spells. Thanks to these irrigation canals villages h

I agree. How would you execute a wealth tax? People having power can avoid it by preventing legislation and after legislation by using loopholes.

I think the problem is not the accuracy of the sensors themselves but that its difficult to have a placement inside the car such that the measurement is minimally influenced. Many factors influence temperature: heat from the motor, from hea

They did an experiment: ask for a poor person and you get a black person. Then they tried to buck the stereotype: ask for a white poor person, and often you still get a black person. This was my experience too with NightCafé models. Once I

A variant of the self-checkout is what's called self-scanning in Switzerland. Instead of checking out you scan the stuff you want to buy with a scanner you can pick up at the entry. The checkout is just paying.

From Switzerland too. In France and Ireland I also saw these self-checkouts. In Ireland I even could use one, and to my surprise it worked out fine.

After reading some comments, to avoid the problems - immediately copy the contents of the buffer the pointer from getenv() points to - don't use getenv after threads have been started A library could be written which makes an immutable

Measuring time is simple. It is just a linearly increasing number, right? No. We humans have additional demands. 1. We want a part of the number to be the same for the time of day. 2. We want a part of the number to be the same for the day

Now you are starting to use the scientific method: namely asking if people can see things without their own material eyes and trying to find a way to be sure about this subject. You won't find an answer if this part of OOBE cannot be c

Good. Capitalism is not the same as a working market. A working market depends on many things, including price transparency. If people don't know how much they are paying for a service of unknown quality, they can't compare produc

I wanted to avoid unsafe. Because unsafe introduces conceptual complications and it seemed to be simpler to avoid that in an example.

Or if I understood it correctly, there are platforms like CHERI which have metadata about memory, for example to detect invalid access. This metadata might race with the data itself.

I assume Rust concurrency guarantees will prevent races and have this covered. Except of course if you use unsafe. Right?

Interesting idea. Humans have as input the real world. For example the wonder they experience when they perceive something preternaturally beautiful. Then they try to express this experience in language. That's what LLM are missing. Th
