A little different, yes, but what I'm saying is that it's not substantially different. Once data is collected, it won't be uncollected, and all it takes is one hack to permanently turn a private database into a public one. An

It's not just Facebook. Your phone is tattling on you 24/7. ALPRs are recording where you drive. Browser fingerprinting is creating a profile on you even if you block ads and trackers. Short of never using a computer, there is no

Here's an idea where I legitimately can't decide whether I'm serious or not: let's deplatform everyone. I think we could all use a timeout. (Obvious retort: "After you!")

Nobody cares about the merits. That's not how arguments have worked for a long, long time. Now it's about red vs. blue, name-calling, post-hoc rationalization, and getting so wound up that every disagreement becomes an existential

To put my position more simply: fixing (or ending) Facebook is necessary, but it won't be sufficient.

Facebook might be a factor in the division we see today in America but don't kid yourself: we were pretty f*in' divided during the Bush years—the Supreme Court had to decide that election, and the 9/11 unity lasted about a da

For blunt-body spacecraft, ionization starts at around Mach 10. The aerodynamics of a missile will be different of course. Regardless, there is headroom above the Mach 5 hypersonic threshold before blackout occurs.

Ok... I looked at the data and when people stopped giving aspirin to children, prevalence of Reye syndrome dropped by 90%. I'm gonna go ahead and continue not giving aspirin to kids.

Very, very difficult question. I tried to do a more drastic rewrite and got stumped. A lot of what makes him sound old is the subject matter. I don't think I've heard the word "steamboat" more than two or three times in

There's some apparent overlap here with the perceptual research I learned about when I did my cartography degree. When selecting colors for a map depicting a single continuous variable, red is universally perceived as "more."

"Social media are public space and have to follow US free speech laws" is legal nonsense and there is a 0% chance that this lawsuit will succeed.

Lots of languages have orthographic depth. I doubt you'll find a correlation if you look at more than one or two languages/cultures. Heck, the French only pronounce half their letters, and they killed their monarchs.

The truly hilarious thing about PreCheck is that you don't even need it. Just give the airline a little extra money and you get access to the PreCheck line with no questions asked. I guess I'm glad they dispensed with the pretext,

I've so far failed to understand why aircraft get singled out when it comes to climate change. They produce something like 3.5% of global emissions, but they definitely get more than 3.5% of global attention. Please do convince me thou
