ReasonReact has been used in production for 3 years now, with billions of page views a day. I'd still call it immature in many^[1] regards :D The particular point of this project was to prove that each successive simplification that my

Yeah I bet once you get the stack up and running, as well as smooth out the inevitable early adopter bugs of lit-html, you'll have a great experience. The subtext of this was my friend constantly telling me easy and simple it'

What I like about the Joel Test is that it's not a test about whether your company has good working environments. Good is extremely subjective. Good depends on what you want. The Joel Test is a test about whether your company has adequ

My friend and I decided to start a project. This friend and I have had discussions where he espoused how libraries like Webpack, React, Redux, etc. just overcomplicate the web. I decided to humor him and do a "simple" stack of lit

Tooling is such a huge factor. I'd love a functional language that had build tools as nice as rustup and cargo. Indeed I'd place Rust as an example of a language that got it right. Sure, Rust isn't functional, but it's c

Pretty cool idea. I get a lot of movie recommendations from Criterion closet videos where filmmakers come and pick out movies to take. Barry Jenkins' video got me to watch the Apu Trilogy for instance: https://www.youtube.co

Man, I just read through the memoir (it's a pretty engrossing read) and it's a ride. I really want a sequel though. Why/how did he end up back in academia? What do the other parties, e.g. Dawson, Margo, etc. think of these re

I've thought that Ruby's syntax would map nicely to HTML elements: div class: "language-javascript" do a href: "index.html" { img style: "height:2em", src: "pic.png"; "⇦"

Oh yeah you could definitely implement this with some nice config. But that's the problem: only insane people like fiddling with configuration that much. I know my gateway to emacs was spacemacs. Except spacemacs, when I used it, was s

I've done the "look ma no mouse" thing where you just use your keyboard. Heck, I used to have an emacs config where scrolling would scroll through my undo/redo tree^[1], which lemme tell you, confuses the hell out of oth

This is a super dumb example, but I hate that scrolling is tied to cursor. Like if I'm gasp using the mouse to scroll through a file in emacs, the cursor has to stay in the viewport. If I scroll past the viewport, the cursor moves to

A lot of people here are being rather unsympathetic. Even if it's not the end of the world, it still sucks. Hopefully you can save some money from not having to move to the Bay Area.

Loving the tooling around wasm getting better. I've been debugging my compiler output with hexl-mode and reading the binary format and while it's not that bad, it'd be nice to do more advanced debugging with a text format.

Some of the TC39 proposals might be worth looking at. The ES spec too. If you really want to go all out, you could write a simple JS interpreter. Probably don't want to go full spec compliant but you could implement a decent subset. Es
