When language is regarded as a symbolic system, then what this means, is that it is a structure of relations of symbols emerging from social interactions. This is very fundamental to linguistics, as language is something precisely not ruled

I just did a short search for the SLS test launches, but couldn't find anything. Is this SpaceX fail fast approach to test incrementally, and SLS was just launched the first time with payload, or did I just miss the test launches of th

One thing I noticed when consulting SAP or Salesforce implementations, where the tech stack is a given, the focus switches only to the business logic, people are forgetting how important tech is. Reporting starts to be included, millions of

This is very valid and well written. One point I like to stress is the external context I often observed for why it is deprecating. As a company grows initial architectural decisions become more of a burden. So even though some software is

But isn't that something of the past? I am mostly working with systems that handle the bulk of the problem, providing process, data model, etc. And extensions are done via a specific programming language, ABAP for SAP, APAX for Salesfo

I second this experience. In my undergrad I wrote so much by hand, and I really had to step back a lot of times, and do it by hand, again, like a kata. Also I learned so much with writing by hand the answers to The Little Lisper etc.

I think it is crucial to learn how to code with pen and paper. All computerization adds a mental burden, that shouldn't be there. Also this is a nice way to connect computer science with mathematics.

Yeah, incidentally recall campaigns for some companies are the same for software as for hardware, think medical device. But the software is constructed in the same Agile way as anywhere else in fortune500 world.

A lot of people already disagreeing, but my two cents. Reading assembly is crucial. From smart contracts in crypto, to a detailed analysis of the algorithm (Knuth), to analyzing exploits, all requires assembly. It is really one of my weak p

I love how small details, like rounding always up for 2.50 would be significantly skewing the numbers to the higher values, so there are functions like ROUND_HALF_EVEN that would round up on even numbers, and down on uneven ones.

I totally agree with you, but unfortunately the lesson was not learned. Now in the back office you see "standard" software with their own scripting language, e.g., APAX in Salesforce, or ABAP in SAP. Which is seen as a step forwar

People here complaining about Microsoft. I fully expected SAP. I think every API is reflecting the organization it was developed in. Everything is based on top of something older, bureaucratically refined.
