I think we have to distinguish between a term being ubiquitous and generic. I know it's fairly common for someone in the US to refer to a tissue as a Kleenex but that doesn't mean other tissue brands can market their goods under that same t

Correct me if I'm wrong, but won't this hurt Google's business rather than protect it? With no legitimate means of buying/renting movies on their Android devices people will likely resort to piracy.

Basically everything is Cocoa in Snow Leopard with the glaring exception of iTunes and it's really starting to show, they really need to do a rewrite. Hopefully they don't call it iTunes X like they've done with the Final Cut and Quicktime

So is anything from Apple apart from iTunes running on Carbon anymore? I wonder how many more years Apple will continue supporting that framework before they finally drop it.

This. A lot of people are coming to Android as a step up from feature phones. In fact a lot of Android phones ship without any way to install third party apps and act as essentially glorified feature phones. I'd love to see the statistics o

I can't say I share your dissatisfaction wot the new XCode UI, initially I disliked it but now I have no idea how I ever lived without it. Just give it a chance is all I'm saying.

I think the reason that open source software is so often poorly designed is this committee approach where no one person can lead the design team. Strong leadership is extremely important when designing a good UI and I feel a lot of open sou

It's just such a grammatically poor phrase and it gives the impression that the entire project lacks polish and thoughtful design.

Does anyone else find the tagline "Made of Easy" to be a bit silly and poorly thought out?

I never thought there were that many highschoolers on Hacker News (year 12 here). Cool to know there's some fellow adolescent hackers out there.

I think something you have to take into account is that a lot of people are simply buying these android smartphones because they either can't afford the iPhone or their carrier doesn't sell it. Also regarding the price of Android tablets, n

Amazon is great for that, when I got my Kindle I was perhaps a bit too rough with it. It was the week after I had gotten it as a birthday present and I didn't have a case yet but I wanted to bring it with me for a train trip. I threw it in

Yeah I think I'll just stick with portable speakers, I doubt the sound from them would be too great. They didn't even give a decent demo in the video. On another note, when did Kickstarter stop being US only?

I'd really love to see Naughty Dog do a series of articles with this kind of technical depth on making the Jak and Daxter games, or even Uncharted although I can see why they'd want to keep some of the tech private in that case. Naughty Dog
