Hm, so can Ada/SPARK bring the same memory safety/data race guarantees to the table as Rust, yet not being more difficult to express and maintain those guarantees? I'm not familiar with the language.

They may apply better than one might think: the example SPI driver posted at https://lwn.net/Articles/863459/ only has two cases of unsafe. Of course, the kernel:: -modules it uses undoubtedly have more, but I ima

I wouldn't call it broken duck typing. The problem is that ShowAbstracts could just modify the array and put an instance of Abstract there that _isn't_ an Impl, thus violating the original constraint of arr containing only instanc

I think one big reason why checked exceptions failed was due to the other big lacking thing: generics. Of course, nowadays Java does have generics but I haven't used Java since then. But in principle with generics and possibly some oth

Well, cheaters arguably reduce the enjoyment of people who don't cheat. So it seems something that would be nice to fix. And it's basically impossible to fix perfectly. Having kernel co-operate with the anti-cheating tool seems to

How about integrating/summing values? Seems like if we interpret the Perlin noise values as "how much to change" instead of an absolute value we would get the end result immediately. However, it would be more difficult to det

True, but GC gives those benefits automatically, compared to a naive program doing e.g. RC-based memory management. And there is of course the question of safety; should you release an arena too early, you may have introduced a bug. Worse:
