> It's not just Google, the Internet stops existing. Uh? No? The internet existed before being overrun by corporate presence. It still does. Advertising pays a lot, but take the ad money away and let it scale accordingly.

We should rephrase things in % terms. IE this payout is X% of their net profit from last year.

I love Battletech. If the IP holders ever get their shit together and have a properly walking Vulture/Mad-Dog, I'm sold. Bonus points for laser tag capability like those tabletop tanks.

I was thinking more of a make your own copy of their printer and run free software on it rather than theirs. It just seems like they don't have that much of a moat which is why they are guarding the software bit as much as they can.

The article mentions reverse engineering the code. But is there anything to stop reverse engineering the physical printer itself, improving on it by 10mm build volume in each direction, and releasing that? It won't be a copy of the Bam

The actual LLM benchmark - make a site as wonderful both in visual presentation and in code, while being as factually accurate as ciechanow.ski. If the LLM can create something that could be mistaken for that work, that's awesome.

The internet world really does run on trust-chaining reputation. A person who takes random things from a near stranger on the internet and runs it on their computer with no real safeguards is not a person I should hire. Which also means tha

I don't think the issue is the time in prison. I think it is the criminal record. Other places in the world, once you've served your time you can often go right back to living. Not that it is easy but it doesn't hang over you

A patent was meant to give a solo genius a way to treat their idea as something tangible, at a time when logistics was much slower and the world revolved around the physical. Maybe they try to develop it themselves, maybe they sell the idea

Watching my kid grow up I realise that despite the modern world having/wanting so many kids we really don't build affordances for them. Most kids 5-8 at the family dinner table are trying to eat from a plate at shoulder height. No

I knew one lovely guy who was a young dad. He started in the server team and was team leader in 6 months. Not because he knew about the tech, though he was learning fast, but because he knew how to wrangle and intermediate the man-children.

Honestly, even schoolkids know to have another phone/camera(usually a friends) take a picture of their phone screen. In a world where people have multiple old phones lying around it isn't that hard to come up with this workaround.

I get why having an offsite backup is handy. But for less than $10k you can easily get a 4 bay NAS with 96TB storage for a local backup. This smacks of saving pennies on IT to spend dollars on lawyers.
