That monitor is much too expensive for just gaming and movies anyway.. You could nearly get a whole 27" iMac for that price. LCD tech has really come a long way since then (not even to mention OLED :) )

This is what we did in the Netherlands. Anyone could afford to study if they wanted to, and pay equalisation kept the gaps low. Social housing provided good and cheap places to live. Until neoliberalism hit though. Then everything was about

The problem is that GDPR didn't go far enough. They should have added a provision that if the user has Do Not Track turned on, the site may not present a cookie barrier and may not serve any cookies except essential ones. I know many b

One thing that comes to mind about Ceausescu, when I visited his 'palace' (the people's house) was how many escape routes and hidden exits there were (including apparently a network of tunnels under the city) For a man who is

Yeah I remember we used to run it as a joke.. On our HP-UX systems with VUE at the time. The sysadmins hated it when we made our terminals look like what they viewed as an inferior system (which to be honest it was, at the time with its DOS

I'm sorry to hear that. I've had many positions where I felt like I belonged including my current. The ones where I didn't were very depressing and stressful. I hope you will find more fulfillment in the future! By the way I

Not really. GDPR preparations predated the Brexit vote. It was even completed and passed several months before the vote even happened (back when everyone still expected it to fail, even Cameron who initiated it has no expectation it would p

This is why Do Not Track was a great idea. No popups because the browser indicates your choice proactively. The problem was the legal framework to enforce it didn't exist so the industry was just using it as a suggestion. The EFF'

Android has always had a file manager and doesn't hide the filesystem from tools like adb. You still can't access the OS files and app private storage but when you download a file you can actually choose where to save it :) IOS hi

MacOS called them folders from its very start. Windows until 95 was really just a shell on top of DOS. 95 was too but it was much more of a full featured OS in its own right. I guess they just wanted to use the metaphor that made sense visu

I did the exact opposite. I was on MacOS since 10.2. But lately I felt things have become way too locked down (both hardware and software), too dumbed down (too many apps resemble mobile apps with limited functionality) and too opinionated.
