I’m sure the US is still conducting industrial espionage, it’s less visible than openly stealing but in essence the same. You should expect to get robbed when producing in China or using US software.

I think it does offer editing advantages, though they don’t matter that much unless you work in a sweat shop. For me it’s just fun going like “look mum, no mouse“

Most IDEs have a vim extension that gives you the basic vim editing behavior. It’s great to get into it without having to dive into plugins, buffers, windows etc.

I would argue that highlighting the syntax is tidying up. It doesn’t stop you from keeping the code clean. Shooting yourself in the foot in order to not walk that much isn’t a compelling argument.
