Anyone have any info about this program? Quick googling about didn't help me, and I'm quite curious about how this program works.

If Zuckerberg wanted people not to comment, perhaps his "letter to his daughter" should have been delivered to his daughter, instead of a "bunch of internet warriors". I mean, come on. Is everyone supposed to reverently

I don't work with Megas, but I have to say this sounds like a terribly brittle view. Frequently it is exactly when connectivity is gone that you want some intelligence combined with data upon which to act, or a buffer in which to spool

That would be "gigaflopsen", I think, considering the long abuse of that suffix. Fairly recently, someone near me was talking about "megaflops per second". I made a joke about computing while falling into informational s

History has demonstrated that activities performed in any particular program the NSA claims has been discontinued is typically replaced in another program. Then Spokesmuppets in front of congress can claim "we do not X under this progr

I think you are confusing military and civil intelligence, which is not terribly surprising, because they are increasingly being blurred, but it it important to keep in mind. The NSA, at least on the margin, does not care about convictions.

The cynical lesson I've taken from watching languages evolve over time is that, if you wish to provoke mass-migration to your new language version, having either a missing feature people want, or an annoying misfeature people don'

I went to high school in a southern town U.S. town that then had a population of about 2000. I can assure you that police behavior there strongly reflected the attitudes of a couple wealthy families in the town, not the ~1900 other folks.

One reason not to institute the same penalty for the police is that taxpayers end up paying. You might say, good, that means voters will try to ensure future police don't do this shit. Which is a nice theory, but probably doesn't

You are still missing some of the finer points of the controversy. The JS issue is more complicated than "just let $browser engine in". One complicating factor is JIT Javascript compilation. My understanding is that Apple applies

I think that's pretty much correct. A lot of the problems here are simply about the inherent tensions with intelligence gathering. The default statements from such agencies pretty much has to be, "if you knew what I new, you'

This just reinforces my belief (and I'm a broken record on this) that Twitter would have been far better as a protocol than as a company.

I didn't really follow along at the time, but there was a bunch of noise ( http://www.cnbc.com/2014/11/19/senate-panel-accuses-goldman-... ) about Goldman manipulating aluminum markets last year. Googlin

What makes the Chicago Boys unique, to a large degree, is that they seem to have made a choice to trade analysis for position advocacy. A lot of them are better thought of as taking part in politics rather than academics. If you want source

Perhaps, since Facebook is so terribly concerned with what we call ourselves, we should take it upon ourselves to be concerned with what Facebook denizens call themselves. I think I'll start inventing names for them. Henceforth, the in

Hard to say without more detail, but I would lean towards probably not. For the environment conjured in my head by what you're describing, I would probably use something like Salt or Puppet to drive installation, config management/
