Ditto. Some people simply don't understand that other people hate exercise. It is extremely unpleasant for me. I get that other people enjoy it. Wish I did, but I hate it. The only choice of activity that makes physical work bearable f

Yep. San Francisco has been utterly inundated. The last estimate I saw was ~48,000 more vehicles from the app services. Most of those are additional, because they are coming in to the city to drive (e.g., the drivers don't live here).

Whether or not humbling themselves into a mere taxi firm with unsubsidized rates would be competitive, I doubt the investors would allow that. There's an awful lot of other people's money in Uber. There's an Ayn Rand joke her

If it weren't for the human suffering involved in all this, I'd be laughing at the farmers, who are simply getting what they asked for[1]. Well, do I still find it funny, but in a much darker way. I still think the answer to all o

I had a laptop vanish at LGA a few years ago. Mostly the same story, down to the "sue us if you don't like it". And it was LGA, so the TSA "agents" were also assholes. I generally don't fly with a laptop anymor

This is close to the platonic ideal-article for HN. Big, grand, non-falsifiable argument about current tech darling/source of controversy; endless opportunities to parse phrasing and argue edge cases.

If it is like other edition changes, you can expect about four typo-fixes, a new sticker on the shrink wrap, a 7-10% price increase, and a single-use code for online tools that make the professor's life easier. Every third edition, a &

I love reading about these advances. Not my field, so it is all new to me in a pop-science way. And it reaffirms my belief that humans (and all the other species, but I'm biased) are vastly weirder assemblages than it seems.

Sigh. If I need to spell this out: Why is the ME watchdog mandatory? What innocent explanation details why Intel has chosen to deny me the option to consider the ME a security risk in my environment and disable it?

Can't speak for the poster, but I live in the Bay Area, and also would happily pay more in taxes for this to happen. That's because I think long-term, single-payer is the only sensible way to handle health care. We have (the US ha

As I understand it, a big part of Vermont's problem was due to numbers. They had too small of a population. California does not have that problem.

So how do you know what type of search you're doing? There were existing text matching algorithms at the time. "No, I mean the kind of car that is really big, that you drive on ice rinks to smooth out the ice."
