Such a code base is likely to be large and the changes distributed somewhat uniformly across it. This means that conflicts are actually not super likely and also that your assumptions are not highly likely to get invalidated by the commits

Gurobi is by far the best on the market IME. Performance is very good even on poorly designed models. The API has a lot of convenient features and while it is expensive it's not that awful to run it with their container licensing and e

Yes if you interpret "measurement" strictly then you can't measure anything at all. I don't even have a ruler I can measure the length of something with that isn't in some way a proxy for the true length. The error

I think the issues with Vickrey auctions for houses is that a lot of buyers really have no idea what price they are willing to pay for a particular property. The open price auction format gives them a (weird and easily manipulated hint) at

They should use a Vickrey auction. Then you can bid very high and only pay as much as the 2nd highest bid.

Some CalDigit docks have this fun issue where if you plug the wrong sort of adapter into the wrong sort of USB-C port it will brick the port if not the entire device on the other end.

You definitely should question it. The US had the highest foreign aid budget in the world but little to show for it. If you are an effective altruist and want foreign aid to benefit the world, you should be concerned that it's funnelle

I don't think there is actually a good solution for connecting a regular H2 gRPC client to a gRPC-Web server currently. Envoy's gRPC-Web filter only seems to go the other way. I haven't tested it but the old HTTP/1.1 rev

Hi, author of Sonora here. gRPC-Web is actually exactly what you want if you want gRPC but none of the TLS, HTTP2 etc pain. It "just works" on HTTP/1.1 like any other server. The Google libraries are definitely a pain to use

The behaviour of many execs I have worked with would be explained well by this sort of arrangement, but it could equally have been a mix of stubbornness and having no clue. It's politer to assume it was corruption.

There are only 5 languages. JavaScript, C++, Java, Python, C# This is basically the same set of languages people were writing 20 years ago and will probably be the same set of languages people will write in 20 years from now.
