Apple doesn’t need to spin anything. EU consumers will be pissed about having to travel to another country to buy an iPhone. And Apple will make the revenue anyway.

Sounds like you’ve never designed a public vs private API before. The difference is night and day.

No it’s not. So far they’ve chosen to go with a simple feature flag but eventually it may require a pullout. Especially if the EU fines them for not releasing features in the EU.

Sounds like you are out of touch with consumers. EU consumers would not be happy if they had to travel to another country to buy Apple devices. Apple has far more leverage than the EU in this case. Millions of unhappy EU consumers are a muc

The Apple press release does say “potentially be forced to stop shipping our products in the EU”.

This is more than just about revenue. There is massive engineering cost and complexity involved to support the EU’s demands. Interoperability is not easy to build. It slows down worldwide development pace too.

I don’t think it’s a bluff. This is more than just a revenue calculation, this is about giving up control of how your hardware and software can be built. If the EU can dictate what features should be included in a software release, that has

Hmm, so if structured output affects the quality of the response maybe it's better to convert the output to a structured format as a post-processing step?

Brilliantly engineered but this is solving all the wrong problems. The author implicates that this is supposed to be a better GraphQL/REST, but the industry is already moving towards a better solution for that[1]: data sync like Electr

Occasionally articles like these remind me how I’ve completely let my guard down after being spoiled living for years in a place where theft and burglary are not a concern. Whenever I go back to a Western metropolis I have to learn to be al

The difference is fundamental. A product where the hardware and software is built by the same entity will always work better in the long run. It all comes down to decades of iteration and low-level optimizations that aren't easy to do

Owners of land that blocks access to significant amounts of other public land should be required to maintain public access roads or lose ownership (of a path of the states choosing).

Static IPv4 is easily achieved with either Cloudflare or Tailscale or Ngrok. Cloudflare also provides strong firewall/DDOS protection.

Also a longtime customer. I think Apple nailed it with this update. I love Liquid Glass, and not just because it’s sexier, it actually works better. The in-place context menus are far better mobile UX. Previously these were dropdown menus i

This is very doable nowadays and in fact may be cheaper, more reliable, and faster than renting a VPS with unpredictable noisy neighbours. Just grab a mini-PC from Beeline for $200 and you've got a 16 GB RAM powerful baremetal server f

Yes sort of like Platonic Forms and ideas. Where do your ideas exist? Can you isolate it to a part of the brain?

I would add a fifth fallacy: assuming what we humans do can be reduced to “intelligence”. We are actually very irrational. Humans are driven strongly by Will, Desire, Love, Faith, and many other irrational traits. Has an LLM ever demonstrat

The readme keeps using the word “manage” but what does it actually do? Does it create and start new VMs? Using dockerfiles? On the local host or other hosts? I don’t understand WTF this thing does.
