Exactly. Not just 1 model but you can compare identical ThinkPad models as well and AMD versions have significantly better battery life. Not only that, even last year's identical models with 11th Gen Intel CPUs have better battery life

Oh, I didn't notice Vala had this new(?) web site, it looks good. From my early experiments with Vala, years and years ago, what I remember is that it had nice error messages and the author was very consistent in releasing new versions

It is not "5% of all users". The filing by Twitter says "5% of monetizable, daily, active users (mDAU)". Not only that, the filing also says that Twitter used heavy judgment to end up with this number, so the real number

IMO, Lenovo ThinkBook 13s Gen2 (Intel) and Gen3 (AMD) are hidden gems which are not much talked about. - 16:10 matte screen with no PWM - Very good port selection (1xUSB-C, HDMI, 2xUSB-A) - Good battery life (for a Windows laptop) - IMO, th

We use git for all software projects, SVN for all hardware projects. I am not certain about the reasons why hardware department still uses SVN. Probably because every hardware engineer is familiar with SVN and it works for them.

Our experience is different. We are using Jira cloud for more than 5 years and I don't even remember the last time an outage has affected our work. Meanwhile we still have some self-hosted services (like SVN) which has problems relativ

I can see some people buying this laptop just because it looks cool, but I am glad to see from comments in social media that anybody who has ever used a laptop seriously can see how disastrous the UX will probably be on this laptop.

That is a good point. Fortunately, I do feel like I am valued in this company. But at that time, I was relatively new in this company and I have moved from another country to work at this company. So I was eager to prove myself to them and

I am the developer which literally got hit by a bus, AMA! I miraculously survived the accident with many broken bones and got back to work in about 3 months. And now it puts a smile on my face whenever I see the term "bus factor".

PyInstaller has been a life-saver for our work. The thing with our work is that we heavily use Python and SciPy stack but we also have quite a few GUI stuff. We preferably have all our code base in Python because our team is mostly familiar

I thought that it is the case only when you bundle into "one file"? If you don't pass the --onefile parameter, all files are in one folder without any archiving, am I wrong?

Can't talk much about AMD but Apple-first policy isn't the problem with Qualcomm CPUs. Anybody who follows Qualcomm news knows that they were 99% focused on 5G for the last few years. TSMC 7nm node is available to them for a long

I can't even track these UI techs anymore. I thought WinUI is the new version of the UI layer of UWP and all apps who use WinUI are actually still considered UWP apps? I genuinely don't know, can somebody enlighten me?

On my desktop Chrome, I use "HN Enhance" extension. It works pretty good. Reading the comments here, a lot of people use various extensions to achieve dark mode, so maybe it is time that HN implements this natively.

I wonder if something big will be announced about iPad software. I feel like there should be a reason why they put M1 into iPad Pros with a big jump in memory (from 6GB to 8/16GB) and processing power.
