This jives more with my personal experiences in visiting SF, but I'm no expert. Seems that a few silent downvoters still disagree.

I stand corrected - I am from the midwest and didn't realize SF was so much higher than the US average in terms of socio-economic mobility.

While it may be possible to statically analyze time complexity of code, I'm not sure it will ever be a good idea to go whole hog and generate version numbers from these analyses due to the fact that it's never going to be 100% acc

I would think you could get away with using (ip, user-agent) to, fairly reliably, recreate a cookie. It seems like it would be pretty rare for a user to clear their cookies _and_ get a new IP address at the same time.

Haven't read the paper, but could you ask for a hash of a random offset+byte count of the file?

Take it from someone who has gone down that path, it's a support nightmare, especially when you want to allow cross-device sync. Much easier to just require the account up-front.

I'm a little confused - when you say "should write value to pipe or block until it can"[1] - I don't see how this will block, it looks like it will just return if the pipe is full. I confess to be only a little bit famil

I think the "main question" you're looking for is whether it does much more than IntelliJ alone - not how much it costs. Price is a distant second to productivity gains. I agree that it is a factor, but in my experience softw

I'm sure it's in the ballpark of any of their other specialized IDEs. Also not that the X I was referring to is your time invested, not your cash. It shouldn't be the "main question" is all I'm saying.

Really? Pricing is the main question? How about how much time does it save, relative to the up-front investment of learning a new tool? As a developer, your time is worth far more than nearly any piece of software you will buy! It seems inc

To me, it's easy to see what needs to be done with objective-c when you write a tiny class that creates a dictionary: @interface MyClass - (NSDictionary *)createSimpleDictionary; @end @implementation MyClass - (N

You are relying on disk io for each update, which can easily be slower than a web request. Either that, or you aren't flushing to disk, which could mean data loss. Modern databases use a write-ahead log to store data that hasn't b

I know they're touting it as a feature, but it seems like a bit of a red flag that git integration is "built in." What if I don't like some behavior of the built-in plugin? Can I install a different one? Is there some re

A good way to account for this is to look at year-over-year change. It looks like on Dec 25 last year, they took a 13% hit[1]. So it appears that their 60% hit today should be tempered a bit, to account for this. Even still, I think we can

All design is arbitrary, sure, but I think the current trend is to embrace the underlying primitives graphics cards give us, rather than hiding and deforming them into real world objects. These primitives are absolutely arbitrary, but I thi
