Agreed. I tried news:yc out for the first time yesterday and wound up deleting the app pretty quickly. The toolbar at the bottom was probably the biggest thing other I didn't like. It just felt wrong.

Manually installing an app in the simulator is the easy part. Slightly harder is running multiple copies of the simulator.

It isn't a blog, but I would highly recommend picking up a copy of iOS Recipes by Matt Drance and Paul Warren: http://pragprog.com/titles/cdirec/ios-recipes . It has a bunch of little tips and tricks in it on making your app work and behav

How is AppCode going to get any better than that? Either they're going to go the heuristics route, like Xcode 3 and below, and have all kinds of cases where they fail miserably, or they're going to hook into LLVM, and have no real insights

I mostly agree with you. The exception is the last paragraph. To me, the last paragraph reads along the lines of "Silly person, engineers can't design. Only a designer can add polish to something. Go back to your coding hole and don't e

`cp` for `cherry-pick` fits how I think about git and cherry-picking -- I'm copying a patch from one branch into another, aren't I?

The best thing I did to help me get into using git was set up some aliases, to make it at least pretend it was like Mercurial and only needed the bare minimum number of characters to complete a command (in ~/.gitconfig): [alias] st

I've always been partial to the binary watch[1] and the Rosendahl Watch[2] (but not enough to actually buy either one for myself -- I wear a non-digital watch myself[3].) Also, I know a few people who are wearing iPod Nano's on their wrist

Not everyone wants to be reached. Not everyone wants job offers or to become a cofounder for someone's startup. Of course, if you post a message trying to hire someone, you should have a way for prospective people to get in touch. But, stil

Look for sublets on Craigslist. You won't find a place to rent for that short of a duration, but you can find someone who is going on vacation for awhile and has a furnished apartment that they are willing to rent out. This is what I did wh

I don't suppose it matters much at this point, but, have you tried a UI-based IRC client (like Colloquy for Mac or X-Chat for Linux)? I don't know about any clients on Linux, but, Colloquy (and most IRC clients for Mac, I suppose) use a Web
