"by default" are the key words here. It is very easy to disable this behavior, if you don't want it. But, it is a good (read: relatively safe and secure) default to have for the average person.

I don't know if I would call IRC a complex protocol. But, agreed that it isn't the right tool for this job. One of the many node.js-based chat servers that were so popular to make a few months back might be a better choice.

That jailbreaking works by taking advantage of OS exploits to gain root access, and, in fact, represents a glaringly obvious, popular, and easy to use vulnerabilit has nothing to do with Apple fixing it quickly?

I really like the name. Doing Core Audio development on its own can be almost as bad as having dental work done, if you don't know what you're doing. Novocaine makes things better.

Its not that Core Graphics is slow, just that CG doesn't guarantee that drawing will take place on the GPU. It turns out that CG typically prefers the CPU for its its drawing. In comparison, when you load images into a UIImageView, you know

#FFCC00. It strikes me as a nice halfway point between YC's orange, and HN's tan background. HN also has http://news.ycombinator.com/topcolors , which shows all the custom topcolors from users active in the past #{interval_i_cant_remember}

Do you really think that most people care about their music being lossless? Let alone know what "lossless" even means? Most people want more music on their phones and iPod's, not less. Now, and not later in the afternoon after they've down

The galling bit will be when they do start selling in ALAC, they'll probably charge more for it - at which point I'll still refuse to pay for anything from iTunes.. On one hand, Apple did charge 30 cents to upgrade to the higher quality A

The first two are the same, with a different syntax, yes. They would both become: objc_msgSend(self, @selector(bar)); However, your examples are basically explicitly passing a message (1 and 2), vs dynamically building a message to p

Quick example of calling a method that doesn't take any arguments and returns an object: id foo = [self bar]; is the same as: id foo = self.bar; which is also the same as: id foo = [self performSelector:@selector(bar)];

* But when designing in photoshop, theres rarely a need for a full version control system since I usually only have 5-6 PSDs of each iteration per design (or logos/sites/etc) and at that scale its easily manageable.* I feel like the word "v

Neat. I don't know if I'd ever use this, but, its a cool hack. Random thoughts off the top of my head, re: making it faster: - Can you can decode into an ARGB buffer, instead of an RGBA buffer? iOS uses ARGB as its native bitmap format, so,

This sounds horribly elitist. You absolutely must use the command line and an editor in order to use git? Sure, I guess. If you get to spend all day working with neckbeards. For the rest of us, having a pretty UI helps. And I don't see how

I had the exact same question as magicalist. So, even if you don't think that it implies not having the rights, it can certainly be read as such. // edit: magicalist is the parent poster, not rorrr. Whoops.

How long/detailed was the phone conversation? A small coding question isn't too unusual — at least, not for startups. What does surprise me is that the coding question came after they spoke to you on the phone, not before, as a filter.

…simple initial "put stuff in a folder…" Apple's goal with iCloud (and iOS) is to eliminate the concept of a folder in the filesystem. Of course it won't work well for you. You want folders and files.

When I want to go to the theater near me (Metreon in SF, local mall's theater in NY), the price you cite is a little over half of what I would have to pay for a single ticket. Its usually closer to $11-$12. And thats without imax or 3d.
