Zero sympathy for the employers here, as it's either a) a sign all the work is being done at a price the company is willing to pay, and these people are just fine where they are, or b) it's a sign the company is poorly managed, wh

Dumb legal question; what's the difference, if any, between "We've been subpoenaed" and "Someone had a warrant for data"?

If you can just say, "We got subpoenaed" in a blog post, isn't that even more effective than a canary would be?

You're missing the "self" part. The fact that humans are heavily involved in how wolves became domesticated means they're not "self" domesticated, at least as defined in this specific article.

Okay heh, bees may not actually do this the way described in the essay, but that doesn't invalidate the point, does it? When there's safety in failure, take risks, and favor risks that have asymptotic upside. Seems like good adv

YouTube’s ad platform had a bug in it yesterday that looped the new Little Mermaid ad through most of the 4th quarter of an NBA playoff game, and I haven’t seen much from them about it. Twitter was on fire about it, so I don’t think it was

Here's a link to the poem [0]. It's an interesting thought, but I wonder if "poem" back in the before times just meant "blog post" before they had those words. [0] https://motivateus.com/stories

I don't think you can say with any certainty at all that "comfortably a majority" of Americans use Uber, especially given that relatively paltry 28% monthly. I understand some people use Uber infrequently, but I think you&

For sure, but I think the point stands. 93 million is a huge number, but it's not even a third of "Americans". I don't think there's any measurement you could use that would show Uber used by even half of Americans

Just off the top, I'm seeing a common logical misfire here, specifically: > If you asked the average American on the street about tech, they would tell you they like to use products like Airbnb, DoorDash, Uber, Facebook, Amazon, and

A) it's not a long list and B) it can be career limiting to speak poorly of anyone, so I don't think "no engineer has said bad things about him" is a fair assessment. I dunno how many rooms with people like Elon you'

All due respect to John, but what the hell qualifies him to classify Elon as an engineer of rockets? I trust John Carmack in his wheelhouse, but without knowing him better I wouldn’t trust him to fix my car or recommend a beer, just because

Engineer, especially in rocket science, is a protected term, and I don't think Elon has obtained his PE, nor has he even gotten an informal education in the requisite engineering discipline. So I wouldn't call Elon an "engine

I'm sorry but your job as a homeschooler is to teach your sons to write. That's not a skill you can enter adulthood without, and expect to achieve success. Liking it, not liking it... none of that matters when you're asked

"I don't care" is a logic, but it's not... sustainable, right? The current dynamic of some people being of your mind but most people being not that way works, but let me introduce you to the Tragedy of the Commons

How can you actually justify consuming content that took time and money to make, without yourself providing any value to the content creators? If there’s a logic I’m missing, I’d love to hear it.

Then I have no sympathy for you. You want to live in a world that does not exist, and your desire to do that harms the very people you claim to support, the content creators.

Does YT detect that the ad wasn't played and therefore doesn't pay out for that view to the creator? From an incentives perspective, putting the onus on the creators to convince their viewers to enable ads might be more effective,

I just cannot wrap my head around folks who demand content for free. How do you think the people who create this content would survive if they couldn't do it for money???
