Unless they purposefully produced hash collisions by truncating the hash, they've just traded one unique identifier for another one. The information they throw away is not very hard to recreate, you just need to discover an individual

Sounds like you might have issues with large field-of-view. Halo was designed to be played from a couch looking a TV somewhat far away, so it has a fairly narrow FOV. I know that at least some of the games you listed (Portal, Portal 2) have

Where would one go to find more of this conventional Makefile wisdom? I've had so many issues trying to use make the "right" way (flexible, clean, terse, etc.). I feel like one of the best ways to acquire this wisdom is to po

Don't they still have that? Isn't that what the .DS_Store folders are for? I feel like I used to do that with USB drives to use on school computers.

I wrote a number of essays in high school on my iPad (the first one) using the touchscreen keyboard. I also did digital painting using the Brushes app and my finger (later with a touchscreen stylus), and made some simple music tracks using

Apple already got a huge number of developers to transition their apps to 64-bit ARM with the iPhone, I feel like if they made it simple enough they could get a critical mass on the desktop just as quickly.

I think you're right, actually. There are occasions where you use a feature that's ostensibly supported, but it needs to be emulated by the driver in software (I think geometry shaders might have been this way on some OS/hard

It would probably be better to port to SDL2, which can then use whichever rendering backend is best for your platform.

Pretty sure that Google is advertising a service that you might pay for, whereas Microsoft is adding a new feature (in reality, many features) to an OS you already paid for. Full disclosure, I work for Microsoft, this post doesn't refl

OpenGL is still very relevant, and it works on more hardware than Vulkan. You can get very good performance out of OpenGL if you try to follow AZDO practices, and it'll be good practice, should you later decide to learn Vulkan.

That's one of the reasons that I'm actually a little excited for Moore's Law coming to an end. For years it has been more economical to program quickly and somewhat wastefully, leaving many people with slower computers behind

You probably want to use the conceptually simplest construct your language / standard library offers. In Python that's enumerate. In C, that'd be the standard for loop. In Java that'd be the enhanced for loop. People rea

Deferred rendering is on the way out, in my opinion. With the advent of clustered forward rendering, we can get many, many lights without having to do multiple passes, cram everything in the gbuffer, use a single shading model for the whole

You could always clone the tree into a new linked-list if you wanted to keep things purely functional, but that would add needless complexity and still not make it easier to create a correct implementation. Functional programming as a parad
