He also made a deliberate point of pointing out beforehand that of course he always flies with a parachute. Nope, not suspicious at all.

Military pilots are gonna be wearing parachutes. Civilian private pilots don't.

The vast majority of private pilots are not trained parachutists and don't fly regularly with parachutes.

On the ground he sounds like he's faking how difficult of a go it is-I had to watch it with sound off because of all his complaining.

I don't think it's normal for the overwhelming majority of pilots who fly single engine propeller planes. The Cirrus is very much an exception. Given the older ages of many people who are private pilots, they probably shouldn

If I had a dollar for every HN story about how technically illegal drugs are being used for psychiatric purposes and we're just on the verge of them going mainstream and legal and licit, I could fund a bunch of YC startups.

Transplants complaining about how they're better drivers than native PNWers gets pretty old after a very short while. Apparently winter weather driving accidents never happen anywhere else in the country.

I'd like to see a news site in the style of the kind of cable bulletin board you saw a lot of from the 70s-90s. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HEP96kDKW44&list=PLu7_of-Pg8...

From a labor perspective, the typical dev interview process is profoundly anti-worker.

I’m not really sure this is a VA specific failure. Lots of people fall through the cracks with mental health care, cliched century old Smedley Butler quotes or not. I’m not seeing anything specific about the VA failing him.

The point is that Germany was under no obligation to declare war on the United States. What was Japan going to do if they didn't?

The problem (well, many problems) with that particular conspiracy theory (which is what it is) is that going to war with Japan doesn't mean that the US will enter the war against Germany.

My guess is that there's a fair amount of politics behind such a statement. The kind of politics that has to do with SJWs, Eich, etc rather than any purely technical engineering decisions.

Having to go through the process of negotiating it down is proof that the system is a failure, because that’s very obviously difficult for the majority of people to do. You simply shouldn’t have to do that in the first place.

Didn't SF have a ridiculous number of Walgreens stores at some point several years ago? Like aside from the issue of shoplifting, could they really afford that many stores in such a small area?

Not every expedition has to match up with something historical/apocryphal. The hypothetical people who reached the Azores several hundreds of years earlier could very well just be the equivalent of historical randos.

Some one who has experience with both should wrote an article about the comparisons between Ham (especially wrt emergency preparedness) and the Civil Air Patrol. Specifically with the aging users and declining numbers.
