I think it's likely they're planning to more deeply integrate some sort of cloud services, perhaps with a paid tier. I don't want that either; stuff like that is fine as an optional extra, but problematic when joined at the

A quick look at the code gives me the impression that webRequestBlocking is a fairly trivial modification to webRequest, and they seem to be keeping the latter. This leads me to two conclusions: it wouldn't be terribly hard for a fork

Perhaps the legal situation is different somewhere, but I would think the browser isn't acting at all. It has no agency; it's just software running on my computer, following instructions I give it. Mozilla has no agency in that

Almost any website with an image gallery is a better source than Instagram for browsing images available on both even for those with Instagram accounts; the image quality is almost always better elsewhere.

You can also sideload or use something like Aurora Store to access Play Store content without restrictions. Yet another reason iOS is a nonstarter for me.

If I'm forced into using an app when a website would have done just fine, I give it a one-star review.

I don't think the important risk of efficient personalized text generation is impersonation as the article claims. Humanity has already seen harmful effects from social media algorithms that efficiently identify content a person can&

For a lot of places where I've encountered captchas, they could just do nothing . Simple rate limiting should probably be the next step. It's not one-size-fits-all of course.

I don't know what "safe" means to you. Firefox for Android has a decent extension ecosystem now as long as you're happy getting them from the official repository. The stable build won't let you install extensions fr

I had similar thoughts. There was never a satisfying explanation for the approach they took, which seemed more typical of Apple than an open source project.

For several years, only "recommended" extensions could be installed, and the number available was extremely limited. Over time, some workarounds showed up, but broad extension support was absent from mid 2019 to late 2023. Third p

Extensions are the main reason I use Firefox on Android. I'm more committed to it there than I am on desktop. Of course, Firefox also broke extensions on Android for several years, during which I mostly used a lightly tweaked Chromium

It surprises me people who actually have this problem don't just switch to a different messaging app. There are many, and the effort required is minimal.

I would expect most people to turn on notifications for anything that's reasonably described as a messaging app with similar settings to the ones they're already in the habit of using. Certainly disabling or silencing notification

That's only true if everyone in the group has an Apple phone, which has decreasing probability with every additional member. Excluding people from a conversation because they don't have the right brand of phone would be pretty ant

ignoramous probably meant that in order to block access to all IP addresses that it has not recently resolved, the firewall must also host or communicate closely with a resolver. This is a tautology, not a spec.

Play Integrity Fix usually solves that. Be sure to leave one star reviews for apps that mistreat you in this way. https://github.com/chiteroman/PlayIntegrityFix

GSMArena has a great parametric search: https://www.gsmarena.com/search.php3 Unfortunately, unlockable bootloader isn't one of the parameters available, and I consider it essential.

The 8a is 3mm wider, 8mm taller, and 45g heavier. Perhaps that's not a huge difference, but I already consider the 4a too big. I will likely continue not upgrading as long as LineageOS and the hardware remain usable.

The Pixel camera app is available from the Play Store, and there are third-party ports of Gcam to other devices that offer extra configuration options. https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/

No current phone from any manufacturer that's reasonably desirable is as small as the 4a, and few of any size have a headphone jack.

If a discount on a new Pixel was the only option, I'd suspect that. $50 cash is around 2/3 what a Pixel 4a goes for on Ebay.
