If I was a police detective in the US I would be pretty angry at the notion of a bunch of rural weekend warriors taking over my job. I mean if it was this easy why was the police created at all? We've always had soldiers.

Okay this may sound weird but Starbucks was the first place that allowed customers to plug in their phone and laptop chargers and that's what made me go there!

Starbucks was a novelty in the Netherlands of the mid 90s but Dutch people are masters in assimilating and adapting foreign ideas and there are several competing chains now.

Reminds me of some proposals to pay people for having kids. The kind of folks who will take that offer are more likely to be terrible parents.

I hate betting but even I can't avoid taking a chance on the big new year's lottery. Chance of winning is virtually nil of course.

I have no doubt that if they could fill the plane with 200 business class travelers they would. But that group simply isn't big enough outside of routes to New York or Shanghai. The 747 became the queen of the skies because it carried

I got an email from the train company that according to their records I had a delay and they put a link in it to a online form to get my money back. I was positively surprised at their proactive communication. The money was on my account wi

If the EU had balls it would block American AI just as China told Google to fuck off. It would also stop the brain drain.

They made cold calling illegal in my country. Also you cannot just sell customer data. It made an entire industry disappear and nobody mourned. But I'm sure some American lawyer would call that a breach of the constitution.

I am. Try to browse anonymously. On the modern internet you're no longer allowed to do this. Cloudflare can't determine who you are? No website for you.

Determining if traffic is genuine requires the user to completely and totally give up privacy. I compare Cloudflare to border control. Open up your bag. Answer the questions. Present your papers.

Not at all unusual. In Europe we have 500 year old buildings that need constant renovations. Finish one part of the building and the next part needs doing. And on and on it goes.

There is always someone willing to work for a dollar. That doesn't mean we should abolish the minimum wage to exploit desperation. Gig workers are just bullshit countries invented to hide unemployment. They don't ad anything to th
