The electric drivetrain, including the motor, is in free wheeling mode by default, i.e. it has not much mechanical resistance, at least not enough to keep the car from rolling. So no need to disconnect anything. That's somewhat unique

> Practically every single car has a freely rolling mode the operator can easily select, despite being, according to you, "very dangerous". Yes, because traditional cars are not free rolling by default due to their mechanics, u

The car is "locked up" on purpose, because it applies parking brakes for safety reasons. It's not a multimedia issue (infotainment). There's a separate driving computer with sufficient redundancy functionality. It's

Exactly. The critical part is to realize the situation as a driver and react immediately, i.e. steer the car to safe place (e.g. shoulder) before losing too much momentum.

That does not make sense. Electric cars don't really have a concept of neutral, because they have no gears or clutch (with few exceptions, such as two-gear Taycan). Yes, the "gear selector" has N as well, but that's just

"Single use vaping devices" So, these are devices containing a rechargeable li-ion battery without a charging circuit, meant to be discarded after single use? What's the background story here?

In school, 25 years ago, I was taught the "circling balls" atomic model and for me physics seemed kind of boring and very stable field of science, like we already knew almost everything. Nowadays, thanks to superb youtube channels

Is the refresh time of e-ink display suitable for convenient terminal use? (I just skimmed the article.) When reading an e-book, the page is typically refreshed 1-2 times per minute, while the typical CLI use is more fast-paced, not to ment

I think we both agree with the principle of smaller batteries being very usable for many EV. Twizy is just a bit apples vs oranges. Ioniq, especially with the smaller/older 28 kWh battery is very impressive, considering its age and cos

M1 is superb, but I just bought a second-hand iMac 27” from 2017. 5k display, max 64 GB of ram, 512 GB SSD, etc. Great value for money! Basically you get a good computer with the price of 5k display.

Same here. In personal projects I just "handwrite" css (with stylus). It's simple & modular enough alone. At work we usually use a "framework" (sort of) to make teamwork smoother.

Yeah. I don't like to use 4K monitors with 15" Macbook Pro, because the latter has 16:10 screen (with emulated 1920x1200 resolution, with 2.25 real pixels for every emulated pixel), while typical 4K monitor has 16:9 aspect ratio w

True, although often the older poles are wired only for 8 amps or so, needing re-wiring for safe EV charging. But the culture of "plugging in" the car already exists.

Correct. As a former die-hard KDE user, KHTML/Konqueror was my daily browser, until I switched to OS X Tiger. Been using Safari since that. Also for web development.

I don't like that comparison. Nowadays there's a collaborated effort to agree about standards, although the process may not always be ideal, but it's still very different from the IE era.

I don't think it's weird. Actually I think it's important to keep this as a community effort, in the spirit of FOSS. From developers, to developers, you know. Surely it would be nice for the maintainers if Apple could throw i

Apple's webkit is open source as well. All major browsers are based on open source engines. The situation could be much worse.
