Europe is wide continent. For example, in Finland most new cars sold are automatic. Hybrids and EVs make big portion of sales (even a majority) and are of course automatic, but it has been a longer trend.

True, they also run such a trains here in Finland, an overnight trip from south to north (Lapland). The train tickets for our family of 5 plus a car are so expensive (total 1200 eur) compared to minimal marginal cost for using our EV (150 e

Trains don't operate from door to door. The last mile problem persist, unless you travel between railway connected city centres. Not everyone lives anywhere near a railway station. (I live in Europe which has relatively good railway ne

Impressive, but they are probably optimizing purely for burst power, not for efficiency, making the trick easier, because the car has an ICE delivering the base power. Compared to Tesla, they have to optimize for both power AND efficiency,

I do ~900 km trips with 2019 Model 3 SR+ multiple times per year in Scandinavia. -20°C winter temperatures are not unusual. Travelling with my family, including young kids. No problems. 2-3 hours driving, then 30-50 min charging. I actually

It's pity that almost none of the carrier boards feature dual camera connectors for stereo video applications. The StereoPi is a rare exemption. The Pi CM4 board itself has pinouts for dual cameras, no additional hardware needed. The f

It took few years for traditional auto to learn that Tesla-style dedicated EV platform is the way to go, but they are doing it now. Their first EVs were ICE cars "converted" to electric (e.g. e-Golf) but VW now has their ID-platfo

Yeah, the final permission for the project was granted in 2002, almost 20 years ago. So I was also 20 years younger. You know, after certain age everything feels "just few years" ago.

I did read it. You still made an untrue generalisation and in the last sentence tried to narrow it down. Why not just wrote like "I live in <your country> and here..."

Tesla uses common technology available. Mass-produced consumer cars haven't yet adopted lidar, because the technology has been too expensive and bulky, until very recent development. The next-gen premium cars will likely offer lidar as

Teslas also have a similar "tow mode" in menu settings. But the case in the original post was a power failure condition, i.e. highly critical error mode.

Yeah, we can argue about the semantics of "by default", but the point is that the traditional drivetrain has more backup options than electric car, which must solely rely on (parking) brakes.

No. If the car is in power failure mode, it means that all systems may shutdown in any moment. So if you let the user to override the very important safety feature (of applying the electronic parking brake), there's a high risk that th
