Yep, that's how the binaries for it are currently built: with the iPhone SDK. However, higher-level stuff hasn't been developed (e.g. graphics), and the native iOS libraries would need emulation of additional lower-level services (like IOKi

How is "mute by default" different from "no autoplay" except that when users actually hit play, it would just start somewhere in the middle? (That sounds like an even worse user experience.)

Disabling autoplay on iOS is not unreasonable. I don't want autoplay anywhere, but I really would not expect opening a web page on my phone to start blaring random audio out the speakers. I wouldn't call that "sabotage", I'd call that "some

Sure. iOS has full W^X (aka DEP), Android does not. This prevents JITs on iOS, but it also makes exploits more complex. iOS also has full ASLR (even kernel-level ASLR likely coming in 6.0), Android doesn't to the same extent. iOS also has a

Note: is a "leaked" copy. Also, Samsung has not licensed this for redistribution online (even if it was not leaked). Like many things in the Android world, distributing this is clearly illegal. Of course, nobody cares; major blogs and news

Or just use their built in data exporter, which while not instant, does include all photos and information that user posted. No need to build anything, really.

You pay $99 for an App Hub registration, then sign in to the device registration app on the desktop with the device plugged in. After that, it's pretty much automatic. I haven't done that much WP dev yet, so I'm not sure about friend's devi

That post is incorrect, from what I can tell. Home screen shortcuts to "web apps" that hide the Safari UI (which are actually run in the hidden "Web.app" application) now have Nitro with iOS 5, but App Store apps do not. This is because a J

One nice feature of the iPhone right now (and the Nokia N9, but not any other phones I've used): you can simply hot-swap the SIM without any battery pulling or even rebooting. Just take out the tray, replace the SIM, and pop it back in.

I'm not sure what you mean, the iOS boot loaders are encrypted and signed. There is a fairly strict chain of trust running from the physical ROM on the chip itself to the apps on the home screen, with each stage signed and verified. Some ar

I'd say the necessity of this post is why PHP is as popular as it is. With PHP, there are no package managers I have to install; there is no template language to learn; there is often no version control; there is no "framework"; etc. You

Again, Nilay Patel at The Verge (maybe read the article? http://theverge.com/2011/04/19/apple-sues-samsung-analysis/ ): Trade dress law is well-established, and Apple itself has a history of successfully pursuing trade dress claims in the

Many of the features listed apply, but certainly not all of them. Again, it is an "and" relationship: Apple claims ownership on all of those features combined . Here's a JooJoo's home screen: http://www9.pcmag.com/media/images/224043-jo

That's a reasonable opinion, but it's not how that type of intellectual property works. Again, Nilay Patel (a lawyer, fwiw) at The Verge: Trade dress is the wonky red-headed step-cousin of the family that fills the gaps between the three;

The community design is an "and", not an "or". The Galaxy Tab model which had issues with this in Germany, if you look at it, has all , not just one, of those characteristics. The "Apple thinks it owns the rectangle" meme is nice, but untr

At least 3/4 of those 4000 lines is directly copied from Skype, and that's just one file. I don't think that's small enough to not matter; anyway, if it really was so small, it should easily have been rewritten with original code.

Please note: this is not an attempt to clean-room reverse engineer Skype, or even to reverse engineer and create an open-source replacement. As shown with things like WINE, Microsoft does not (and probably cannot) take them down. No, that's

NSString is decades old, from NeXTSTEP (you can see that in the name: "NS"). While its possible they could change it, the in-memory representation doesn't matter much in this case. When you transfer data out, such as with writeToFile:encodi

The major innovation was the scrolling: none of the previous touchscreen phones had smooth, natural, physics-based scrolling on a capacitive (e.g. finger, not fingernail) touchscreen. The home screen is a prettier version of the Palm OS one

I'm confused. You say Google "states in its privacy policy that it won't use it for anything other than to provide the service", but that's not good enough, because they can amend it later to remove that protection. How is that different fr
