Here in San Francisco, we really have Comcast and Astound (a localish one). I don't know of any except those two.

Is this really appropriate for HN? Admittedly, I'm pretty new around here, but isn't this kind of "political news" off-topic?

Thanks! That looks just about what I was (mentally) predicting.

It might (partially) be due to the "identifying features" being removed from the images.

Easily: poor scrolling, slow, shadows at the end of the web views (that the iPhone SDK forces in there (!)), etc. It's fairly easy to tell on an iPhone if something is JavaScript or not, it's one of the reasons I don't use anything that's b

Sure, but then you have the exact same issue where only a subset of devices can use Netflix.

Interesting; I didn't know that. The block-based methods are, of course, better, but then you can't support iOS 3.x, which is still a pretty big percent of users. Thanks!

Once, of course, all the devices get upgrades to it. When I'm still seeing releases of Android 1.5, I'm actually unsure if working with the OS for this would actually make it more difficult to support on a variety of platforms.

I cannot rate Erica Sadun's "iPhone Cookbook" high enough: some of the techniques it showed (especially the truly modal alert views) incredibly helpful, if slightly obscure.

May I ask why you aren't using the UIView animations, which, for something like this, are easier (and don't need the extra CA power)? For this case, do this (also uncompiled): [UIView beginAnimations:nil context:NULL]; [UIView set

Did you even read my comment? :( I've read the code, there is no iPhone 3GS support -- yet. Here's a link to the project's wiki, note all the red under 3GS: http://www.idroidproject.org/wiki/Status#iDroid_7 Secondly, my point was about th

It doesn't even run on the iPhone 3GS? Also, the iPhone 2G and 3G have identical processors, so I'm not seeing where a speed difference would come from...

The issue with piracy is because Apple lets their DRM be cracked by just running gdb on the encrypted processes (while running) -- if they put any effort into it (kernel level blocks, etc) they could make security possible even with these h

Python has == for value, and 'is' for reference -- that seems like a good solution to me, since it works for both "primitive" and "complex" data structures.

Note: while this mentions that FaceTime is an 'open standard', it's not, at least yet. Steve Jobs promised it in June, but he has yet to release any documentation or the necessary information to make a compatible implementation.

So far, only three people are using Windows (all 7) as their main OS. About 7-9 were using some flavor of Linux/BSD as their main OS, with the rest (all 10-12 using Mac OSX. (There were 22 posts when I wrote this.)

It's most certainly not a fair comparison and I'm most likely trolling here, but at the moment I considered it a (somewhat) interesting point. (Edit: And Microsoft supports downgrades. I can't defend my own argument. In fact, on anything ne

They want to make the idea of "running" irrelevant: to the user, it's active or inactive. No need to manage a list of running programs if what is actually running is made invisible and unimportant. Makes it simpler.

That doesn't mean that Android is outselling iOS, though: the title doesn't mention phones anywhere, it says "devices".

I don't see governments considering more than Microsoft for most things: desktop OS, office suite, etc. I would be glad if this changed that, though. There's a potential for quite a bit of money to be saved.
