So, where else does the FSF suggest we get our apps if we are supposed to avoid the App Store?

I think that '#' is a remnant of IRC channels, which used that 'tag' as well and are also focused on a specific subject. (Just a personal theory, though, no evidence.)

The Internet is not the web. Native games with Internet multiplayer aren't the web, they are the Internet. I don't know a single person using the online Office versions, because, well, they don't compare to the desktop ones. Yesterday, I sa

The issue with all of those is that they are different than '@' and '#': they aren't full-height characters that fill up most of the space, they have a lot of white space. Other ones that seem to have that same (desired?) property are '$',

I dislike the ^ character in most contexts, including this one (as well as with Apple's "blocks" extension to C, where they are designed to resemble an asterisk -- but IMO, do a poor job of it). Might I suggest the % symbol? It's full-heigh

You can, however, use the "share contact" button to evade that.

I'm new here, but my reasoning was that it seemed a lot more technical than what else was being posted in that comment thread. Most of that seemed to be "is this a big deal?", not "why does this work?". I'm still learning, so is that kind o

(Note: this is a pretty technical post.) The iPhone's passcode is pretty superficial. Only the UI code actually enforces it, and this is one of the results of that distinction. In fact, when you unlock, you are still viewing the same proces

From someone who knows what is going on during the iPhone restore sequence, and from what he said, the iPhone NOT bricked. If it is offering to restore, the bootloaders are running (it's actually impossible to brick an iPhone via software),

Note that this isn't anything to do with dynamic typing: Python is very dynamic, but it doesn't have this weird coercion (or is it "automatic type conversion"?). I hate this as well, but, I love dynamic typing. They aren't the same thing.

The big question here is: what evidence do you have of that? So far, I haven't seen any. Please let me know if you do know of any people negatively affected by this.

You could also remember that they have published their guidelines now, so while they still block a lot of stuff, at least we now know exactly what that is. Actually, I've seen a lot less "horror stories" since then. Not saying it's fixed, b

Just a suggestion -- use DisplayRecorder (from Cydia) on a device ( http://rpetrich.com/cydia/displayrecorder/ ) or SimFinger (on GitHub) with the simulator ( http://blog.atebits.com/2009/03/not-your-average-iphone-scre... ) when taking

Have you checked out http://opensource.apple.com/ ? A significant portion of iOS is open-source, pretty much everything is open below the UI layer.

Each firmware update they block the ability to run custom code (jailbreaking) -- of course they'll block this as well.

Apple's new policies allow interpreters, but they disallow downloading code to be interpreted. Yet, they allow you to type in your own code. Interesting.

Actually, I heard the battery life on the EVO was pretty horrid even with 4G off, and the other devices were acceptable, but not great.
