(I know this is a bit pedantic, but I do want to remind people that not all jailbreak users -- and, in fact, more than half of them -- aren't pirates.)

Is this something that anybody actually wants? The form elements are standard in your browser, any user knows immediately what they are. Is theming them a good thing, or just a way to make your web(site|app) "different" than everyone else?

Eh, Steve said that it was at a "normal" 10-12 inch distance from the eyes, IIRC. I agree, though, it's very hard to see those pixels, but I also agree with OP that you hold it quite a bit farther away. They'll call it a Retina Display almo

Hah, my tweet(s) got quite some attention! I'm not even sure if I found that image myself, but I do remember discussing it on IRC in August (and just recently brought it back up with all the new rumors). (Lots of attention, and, it seems, l

You're wrong, but it's not why you think. iTunes is no less awful on the Mac. It's arguably worse, and certainly no better.

I don't think Google has affected anything with this move. By any counts out there, Firefox has double the market share of Chrome. It might reduce the use of HTML5 video versus Flash video in Chrome itself, but for the whole web, it doesn

Apple's primary reason for not supporting Flash is that there is not a "Browser Plugin Store", there is an "App Store", and Flash is decidedly not an "app".

They didn't have an exploit: they showed how to get the private keys to sign anything. Much more valuable (for legitimate uses (and piracy)) than geohot's posting of one individual key.

(Honestly I don't see how geohot did anything, here, really: he used one exploit to apply the work of fail0verflow, who presented at CCC, to a new part of the PS3. All the important parts, like the private key calculation, were already pres

Unprecedented to sue those hacking a console with the sole intent of using it for Linux and homebrew, yes. (Yes, suing over piracy is not new, and that's what Sony is doing here. But that doesn't change the fact that none of them support pi

Incredibly relevant: Daeken's Hardware Hacker Manifesto: http://daeken.com/the-hardware-hacker-manifesto Sony probably has the upper hand legally here. The DMCA seems to be pretty explicit about these kind of this, at least from my non-la

Unless it has a door out of the garden, like Android's "install unsigned apps" toggle. It's the best solution to this "issue", but so far only certain Android phones offer it (and all but the Nexus series are locked down in other ways). If

He makes a few good points: Linux has had this for years, and they have done quite a good job with it (especially with the Ubuntu Software Center). But, as he says: Linux only has 1% market share. Mac OS X has almost 10% market share. If

I prefer the new-style Exposé, I find it more visually appealing. I'd never used it before Snow Leopard, but the changes made it much more appealing to me. (Meta: I'm always interested why blatant copyright infringement of developer-only so

Apple does have a kill switch, but they don't use it for situations like this one (or, actually, they haven't used it at all so far). You can keep using it, but backup that .ipa file.

Probably would be better to use a vendor-specific salt, so you can compare users between your application. Since the UDID is just SHA1(SerialNumber + IMEI + WiFiAddress + BluetoothAddress), adding in a "vendor ID" at the end when generating

I believe the name "dissident" comes from a desire for anonymity (probably a good idea, with what he does). He used to go by "TDDebug", fwiw. (Insert argument how none of the kids who use Hackulous would ever buy an app anyway, due to lack

More to the point: neither of those belong as part of iTunes. (Well, maybe the music store. But device management and syncing makes no sense.)

You can't argue with the page turning, though. I have no idea how the Google engineers turn a page, since it's nothing like anyone else does it (or iBooks, for that matter).

I think the issue, though, is not if you (or other people on HN) use AppBrain: it's if your customers are going to be able to find your app. I doubt that a significant chunk of Android users actually use something like AppBrain, so a pre-in

Then use Chromium. Just as open source, and it's not like Android: Chromium development is public and anyone can work on it.
