Proto 3 has the "oneof" type. For instance: message MyThing { oneof sum_type { TypeOne type_one = 1; TypeTwo type_two = 2; } } The lack of inheritance seems awkward at first, but with oneof it isn't much of a bloc

HTTP/1.x will allow you to stream requests from the client. It'll also let you stream chunked responses from the server. But it won't let you do both simultaneously without going more exotic. Speaking from my own experience i

Disclaimer: I work for Google, but not on gRPC. It's worth mentioning that gRPC is actually format-agnostic. While I can't say it does the best job of this (gRPC+protobuf works best), there's precedent for using any transport

gRPC connections are persistent, so a single client will always talk to a single backend in that configuration. It's fine if you have lots of clients but can easily lead to load imbalances. That's why projects such as Envoy exist.

Depends, for a leader in their field that's on the low end. But, I understood $250/hr to be what the firm received -- usually contractors don't get nearly that much, but I don't have any experience with government contra

To expand (hopefully correctly, I'm still learning Rust): You can have a single "mutable borrow" in a single lexical scope where you can mutate the vector _and its contents_ to your liking, but you can't pass a vector mi

This was the final straw for me to move to Android. My 6S was unusably slow with iOS11. I'd rather this be something _I_ can control. At the very least, the performance should improve if you plug in the phone, and it doesn't. Edit

In a single integration test? That'd be pretty absurd. At least in our project, each integration test has a certain amount of overhead. Some backends are fakes (when I request X, you provide Y), some are actually booted up with the tes

So long as the presubmits are configured correctly, or someone ignores failures and force submits. :) It's usually quite nice though, and changes that break lots of projects are rolled back quite fast. Usually.
