If you have the v2 board you can use the PLL to change that 12MHz up to a high frequency (150 Mhz maybe?). You have to use a block and the icepll tool will generate the code for the frequency you want.

I am only half way through it, but you get a lattice icestick for less than $30 and open source tools. I've started the hackaday.io bootcamps which so far have been really good. https://hackaday.io/list/160076-fpga
