Heroine is powerfully addictive to those susceptible to addiction, which is not everybody. A percentage of the population are going to find their way to these things and then for a percentage of those people its going to become a problem. A

Around 1 in 20 people have personalities such that they're prone to addiction, to the extent that it can cause them to make questionable decisions. Drinking, smoking, sex, heroine, gambling, porn, work, party drugs, Subutex, anti-depressant

How about we drop the prudishness, and discuss the points raised by the article? Seriously, what's with all the language moralising? This guys is totally free to make his points colourfully and passionately however he wants to. If it upsets

Hah. I just reread my comment and stared aghast at my own error. Languages requiring absolute grammatical precision fail to compile with errors, not so Hacker News comments sadly. There, I just solved your mystery for you :)

A quick word of warning for anyone following this guide. You should never sudo npm install. That's giving root privileges to anyone that care's to upload code to the npm package registry. npm should work fine without sudo.

I lean towards a sort of death. But perhaps we're all dying and reanimating in between each Planck time instant anyway, in which case we shouldn't worry about it too much :)

Mongoose mainly just provides a handy programmatic API in Node.JS to native MongoDB features. The querying power and types/structure (derived mainly from its inherent JSON-ness admittedly) are part of MongoDB, not the software around it.

With MongoDB/Mongoose there absolutely are types and structures. Schemas have structure and types for their fields, all of which can be enforced, validated and brought together for non-trivial querying. Just because its DO/NoSQL doesn't mea

Why not use Node.JS? It's technically feasible to use it, and it'll be fun to fill in the blanks in terms of coding new tools and utilities that are missing the community right now. If they make something good it'll remove a lot of the fric

I've got high hopes for this. The currently popular web framework for Node.JS is Express (built on top of Connect), which has built on the success of stuff like Sinatra and Rails, and (dare I say) improved on them in some areas. Express/Con

So you're equating somebody expelling water vapour laced with minute quantities nicotine with the phrases "drugging everyone near them" and "force someone to take a drug"? Way to ratchet up the rhetoric. Using such emotive and inflammatory

2012 shows a drop down to about 150 from 200 in 2011. So there is a drop off. I think? Or perhaps the graph is just horrible, it's very hard to tell.

Definition "apologise": defend, explain, clear away, or make excuses for by reasoning. By criticising the response to the link, rather than anything to do with its technical implementation, you are asking people to apologise, either that or

This is wrong. The "feel" of an animated interface is an entirely creative/artistic/subjective thing, and its overall success is down to the sensitivity of the animator, not the underlying mechanism. There's always going to be a place for b

For me that's probably the worst part of the article. It's definitely rhetoric, and on brief inspection sounds quite impressive but says nothing aside from the authors wish to inject words like "mistrust", "anti-democratic" and "nihilistic"
