Should I upload a picture of my Macbook Pro keyboard? Because the funky characters are not on there. Just the words, Fn, Control and Alt/Option. Command is the only one that has a symbol as well as a word.

Well, there are a couple of subtleties that are being addressed, that maybe need to be said better. 1) Mac keyboard shortcuts are confusing and inconsistent compared to other OSes. They're not as discoverable. Maybe this is why it seems lik

That's cool with me. I choose technology on quality alone, with regards to my use cases. I certainly don't tell people that they shouldn't use what they're using, I just give my opinions. People such as yourself are often telling me I shoul

ctime is change time, not creation time. http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/20460/how-do-i-do-a-... "Note that the ctime (ls -lc) is not the file creation time, it's the inode change time." So, like I said...yes you do have to roll y

Sure. That's nice about HTML, but too bad you lose almost every other quality thing because of it. I don't understand why everyone is so hung up on HTML though. The internet is not HTML, the internet is TCP/IP and all the protocols that rid

I prefer being hostage to Microsoft rather than Apple, the Gnome team or the KDE team. Outside of building your own OS and your own user interface, you only have slightly more of a degree of freedom with 'nix. At least my master gives me a

How about an email application that handles keyboard acceleration really well? This can be done easily with Silverlight (in or out of the browser), but not so much with HTML. That's why Gmail has crummy keyboard handling. In Thunderbird, I

The trirand grid that you linked to doesn't even get keyboard or mouse focus right. It doesn't even get row selection right. If you think that's a good grid, I don't expect you to see anything remarkable about the grid I posted.

I wasn't saying that Silverlight reached the same market penetration as VB6. What I said was that Microsoft isn't going to take it away and make it not work. Like VB6, you'll still be able to run it if you want.

This is exactly the problem. HTML/CSS/JS is disgusting to someone who knows the power of a good native SDK. People who only do web dev just don't know what quality is.

Oh, so everybody should just do HTML no matter what, from now on, for ever and ever, amen? Nobody should ever invent a competing technology because HTML is good enough for you? Is that it?

You're comparing apples to oranges. IE6 is a browser, Silverlight is a plug-in. Using Silverlight doesn't mean that you can't switch browsers.

Not really. Silverlight will be about as dead as VB6. Plenty of companies out there are still using VB6. It's not like Microsoft is going to take away the download or something, they'll just stop developing it. Also, why "good riddance"? Do

I agree with your responses to 1 and 2. I take issue with the example for 3 though because Redis is nowhere near the complexity or feature set of MongoDB.

Has any application ever "jacked" all of your data? Is the app store really going to debug apps for everyone? How do over a billion PCs run Windows when there's no app store doing this for them??
