There are plenty of startups based in SF proper as you mention, instead of the Valley. It certainly varies depending on the type of person you are, but I would think that in general most tech-minded people would prefer SF-proper to Manhatt

They've been around for a few months and were one of the higher volume exchanges. They were doing ~800 BTC in trades/day for the month prior to this, so ~$11k/day with their commission of .006*2 (I think it was .006, and on both sides) the

That was my reaction as well. Not just the fact that it's ambiguous whether they're trying to sell for 17k EUR or 17k BTC, but the fact that they're even trying to sell it at all, and then the buyer is presumably on the hook for the BTC th

While I enjoyed last year's app, I'm a little irked by the fact they require iOS 4 this year. I'm still using a 3G and don't really want to upgrade to iOS 4. I understand that sometimes there are reasons they want to put features in an ap

Isn't the point that it took a pretty major natural disaster (or two, depending on how you want to look at it) to even cause a problem like this in the first place? And STILL the radiation levels are below the safety guidelines? I'm sure p

I don't think saying 80% or so of YC founders didn't go to top-tier schools means schools don't matter- I haven't seen the data on the applicant pool which is obviously relevant to this, but to me it seems like if 20% are coming from top-ti

I would much prefer to stay at an AirBnB place than a hotel even at the same price (though getting comparable accommodations for half the price is obviously a plus). I've met a lot of interesting people as hosts that I've gone out with, sh

There are sites that don't offer a full page version but do offer print versions- WashPo comes to mind though I know some other sites do it as well. I think in cases such as these linking the print page is fine- you can argue we should supp

Is your argument that following the law = ethical conduct? If so, how to do you reconcile differences between laws and cultures? Shouldn't ethical conduct be universal? Certainly you must concede that there are unethical behaviors that are

I use my iPhone for tethering and I get calls while I'm using it sometimes and would like to be able to get the call without it knocking me offline all the time. Granted not many people have tethering enabled on their iPhone as it's not of

Groupon markets to you in a way that claims you'll gain long-term customers, that's where the retailer is supposed to make money. The problem is that doesn't end up happening for a variety of reasons, as has been pointed out elsewhere in co

Unfortunately I've also accidentally ordered books (more than once) when trying to delete the sample. As a testament to Amazon's great CS though, I've gotten refunded immediately when that has happened.

I should probably submit this to him (and I shall now), but my chief complaint with Instapaper is that on split-page articles it doesn't automatically combine them into one. Some sites (namely WashPo comes to mind off the top of my head) w

In case you haven't noticed, charter schools have far more interest from parents than there are spots open, that's why they have lotteries to get in. In fact there is a documentary specifically about this, called simply [1] The Lottery. Al

Are you sure it's a "paywall" and not just an account sign-up? I made a throw away account for NYT years ago and it seems to access the page fine, I wasn't aware they had activated a paywall yet?

This, also a rather unfortunate change in the recent firmware (to me, anyway) is that this page turn starts when you press the button instead of when you release it. I was so used to pressing it in anticipation, and releasing when I neared
