I've partaken in some SDD (Spite Driven Development) myself related to the Garmin ecosystem. The problem with it is once you stop caring, the development stops too.

Right click on the file in the project tree -> rename will rename references. Or in the code right click -> rename symbol. Not sure why you need to bring AI into it.

I am currently writing a desktop application in Rust. It’s a jellyfin client for music. I think the main reason is that writing Rust is a joy that gives you confidence. This is important to me as I often have small amounts of time to work o

It’s far from dead. Take a look at the gnome circle apps as a demonstration of how many good applications are being written for gnome these days. I believe a large part of this is due to the fact that to use QT you are still stuck with eith

What’s up with this constant insistence that the Linux desktop should be familiar to windows users? I feel like people are just as likely to be familiar with OSX at this point. Also I’m not sure why sticking with a 30 year old mouse driven

It’s the default because it’s much easier to provide a consistent desktop with gnome compared to KDE. Let’s face it, most quality Linux desktop apps use GTK. Even Firefox uses gtk. So you can make KDE the default but you’re going to be forc

Isn't the Android rom scene in shambles? What phone would you have to buy now to be able to even run decent a decent custom ROM?

Looking into it we are both wrong. Plan 9 implemented /proc after 8th edition Unix. Solaris and Linux both implemented it at the same time in 1992.

Firefox with UBO is still a huge win. But Orion browser is making progress. At this point I just don’t see a reason to go android anymore. If I have to be part of a walled garden I may as well choose the nicer one.

If you read the initial bbs post by Guido introducing Python he describes it mostly as an alternative to bash. Basically a really nice scripting language with a decent standard library. I don’t think it was designed from the start to end up

I think it’s been long enough now. Uv just has so much velocity. Pyproject.toml and pep support just keeps getting better. Poetry which I think is the closest analogue, still requires a [tool.poetry.depenencies] section afaik.

But why would you pull in an entire UI framework, QT, just to use its webview? If it’s not clear, these are local apps we are talking about. The webview loads local content. This is what tauri does.

It’s very basic. Good enough for oauth flow but not much beyond that, definitely not to host your entire UI. Also I don’t see what the point of that would be.

I worked on a team the switched v2 of our product from Python + QT to Tauri specifically to get away from QT. If you have any kind of specific design requirements, QT is pain. The ability to use the frontend web stack is a huge win especia

They have to an extent. The /proc file system on Linux is directly inspired by plan 9 IIRC. Other things like network sockets never got that far and are more related to their BSD kin.

This post demonstrates one area where ai agents are a huge win: ui frameworks. I have a very similar workflow on an app I’m currently developing in Rust and GTK. It’s not that I don’t know how to implement something, it’s that the agent can

Which has since been archived. Last post from “Datastar CEO”. I mean cmon, it’s a little cringe. That meme is funny when it’s about HTMX. Like at least try your own memes instead of riding on Carson’s sense of humor too.
