The hubris of this self declared successor. It’s not even the same team.

I’ve recently begun the same journey, except I skipped sync and went straight to Jellyfin (open source Plex) with the files stored on a home NAS. With Tailscale it means I can stream from anywhere. I’ve even been working on a native Linux c

BG3 runs natively on Linux (sorta, the proton Linux runtime) now! Not sure Larion can do wrong at this point.

Flatpak works fine for me on Arch. I use it mainly to avoid needing 32bit libs installed. Once steam goes 64 I’ll go native.

I added the battle.net installer as a non steam game in steam and it just worked. Proton is really good.

You joke but the first thing I thought when I saw the icons was that they were nice. Flat everything has run its course.

On The Road was an inspiration to me in high school. I ended up doing a solo road trip around the west coast when I was 17. Met some interesting people. Mostly it was quiet. Not nearly the excitement I had hoped from the open road. I’m not

I think the collaborative nature of open source software dev is unlike anything else. I can upload some software in hopes that others find is useful and can build on top of it, or send back improvements. Not sure how that happens with a pai

My guess is that, as has always been, the pool of people willing to code for free on their own time because it's fun is just much larger than the people willing to make icons for software projects on their own time because they think i

I'm pretty ignorant about this stuff but I think asyncio is for exactly that, asynchronus I/O. Whereas GIL-less Python would be beneficial for CPU bound programs. My day job is boring so I'm never CPU bound, always IO bound o

As far as impact on the ecosystem I’d say uv is up there. For the language itself you are right. Curious if you’ve come across any real use cases for Gil-less python. I haven’t yet. Seems like everything that would benefit from it is alread

Virtual Richard M. Stallman. This is hilarious, I'd never heard of this. Thanks for sharing. No surprises on my system except for the firmware-intel-* packages. I thought those were free software? Must be binary blobs.

If you are running Linux non free software in the exception, not the rule. I myself can’t think of any that I run.

This is how I can tell you don’t get it. It’s not about the value of your friends doing those things for you which you can hire someone for, it’s the value YOU get out of doing those things for your friends.

In my experience QT designer was awful to use. It’s probably fine if you are doing super vanilla layouts and widgets but as soon as my team started implementing custom css (or whatever the qt equivalent is called) things went off the rails.

There is no way you can charge an ebike battery by pedaling fast enough for it to actually get you anywhere in a reasonable time.

You still only need 1 powerful computer. Networks are so fast these days and we have stuff like Tailscale it’s pretty easy to use the laptop as a dumb terminal and do all your work still on the fast computer.

Powerful desktop at home + Tailscale + super light old Thinkpad with amazing battery life has been working really well for me whenever I need to be out and about. As long as remote development works for you I think this is the way.

I don't think the pedals are attached to the drivetrain. They look like they are literally just to charge the battery. So this bike is just dead when it's out of batteries? Unless I'm missing something.

My friends and I used to visit this site a lot in high school and got kicks out of reading experiences for the more "hardcore" drugs like nightshade. Who knows how many of them were legit, but it was a great stoner activity. Glad

Was going to post the same thing. Lorem Ipsum makes the data too hard to distinguish. I get that due to the dynamic nature of the examples the text needed to be generated, but Latin isn't the best choice IMO. Otherwise great article, t
