The easiest option is runtime dispatch, for instance by using compiler support for function clones: https://lwn.net/Articles/691932/

SBBR and EBBR standardize the Arm booting process, but unfortunately many vendors just don't care.

Please no "on average" or margins. If it says 16GB, it has to be able to store at least 16GB.

On AArch64 you can have multiple combinations of mapping sizes: 4k/2MiB/1GiB 16KiB/32MiB 64KiB/512MiB/4TiB

All of that works here on Tumbleweed... Chrome is actually one of the browsers that had KDE file picker integration early on. Initially it called kdialog, now it uses xdg-desktop-portal.

In (open)SUSE we also use delta RPMs. They work in a slightly odd way: The CPIO archive of the installed RPM is is rebuilt based on the installed files, then a binary diff is applied to create the new RPM. That is then installed. (ref: htt

Object files are compiled code with the API and ABI already baked in. This approach effectively combines the downsides of static and dynamic linking.

Protecting data is perfectly possible without bricking the machine. Just wiping the encryption key as part of a full reset is enough for that.

IMO you're exaggerating a bit, but there's quite some truth in there. Flatpak has some security features and is by itself not a bad design, but the ecosystem's current state isn't really utilizing those. Snap is a whole

That wouldn't actually help much. In the case that there is no inheritance, using a function pointer has unnecessary overhead (pointer storage, indirect call, additional parameter). In the case of inheritance, the pointer type differs

AArch64 doesn't rely on NZCV that much. Unlike AArch32, most instructions can't run conditionally anymore, it's mostly just the usual conditional branches. Like on RISC-V, cb(n)z and tb(n)z perform comparion/bit test tog

You can do the same just without UKI by using the same parts (kernel, initramfs + cmdline) as separate files. There's the kernel's EFI stub and other minimal bootloaders (like systemd-boot) if you need a more complete menu.
