Given that today's HPC architectures are mostly power constrained, and a majority of the FLOPS often come from GPUs (for their flop/watt ratios), this direction is not surprising. ARM has been making major strides in the high perf

I was going through this project over the weekend. And while I can't recall where exactly in the docs I read this, I am quite sure the author mentioned that there are various python projects but they are quite slow. Other implementatio

Given the huge level of interest in the online event this year, I am quite sure that we'll try to have more of an online component going forward, even as we move to physical events.

I learnt about Zipline in a talk at JuliaCon by Tucker McClure who spoke about how they use Julia for designing and tuning their aircraft. Had the great fortune of spending an evening at the conference to learn more about the company itself

Yes. Some people think this is a gimmick. But it is actually quite a bit useful. Especially, when in the middle of a session, I often do not want to move my hands from the keyboard to the mouse to close windows that plotting tools open, or

Which version of Julia are you using? My main point was that while half a second (~0.5s) is perceptible startup time, ~0.1s is not. Is it a much older system than mine? I have a 2.3GHz Core i5 from about 2017.

As walnuss says below, these things are already being worked on. If you tried Julia a few months or couple of years ago, you'll find that stacktraces have already got quite a lot better. One of the things that the Julia community could

We certainly are grateful to Nat Friedman for stepping in and fixing this. We have been aware of the centralization issue generally, and in fact just this weekend, we released Julia 1.4, which has redesigned the internals of the package man

Glad to hear that the LTS version did not have an issue. I hope you did file an issue with the Plots package. The reason is that we generally like to make sure that regressions like these are not language level regressions. Sometimes packag

I'm having a hard time trying to follow your argument. You seem to have had some issues with Julia, and I would like to take those issues at face value. It would be nice if you could point to specific issues since we always like to fix

Sorry to hear that. I do hope you filed issues or chimed in on existing issues. On deep learning, Flux has a different flexible approach. This is great for certain people. For people who want a library of existing models, Julia can already

The 0.7 to 1.0 was a planned move that was communicated for over a year. If anything, the 1.0 transition went very smoothly and the Julia community grew significantly soon after its release. All the download and community stats broadly demo

Providing a well functioning BLAS experience in a language is a non-trivial task. Saying "just use lib" seems to severely understate this. How many go or swift or Nim issues discuss matmul vs the Julia repo?

While I don't agree with many of these points, I do agree that some of these can be substantially improved. We continue to work hard at it. Some are research problems, while others need elbow grease. Just to present the other side, her

Out of curiosity, how would you know that the community is large enough, or committed enough? For example, while Julia has been in development for almost 10 years, a lot of the community has now been around for 5 years. There's about 2
